Not GM related, but thought it would be of interest to a fair number here..

;( I love crts. I remember upgrading from my iMac G3 to my current 2010.5 iMac i3 and thinking that the new computer is amazing, but I miss how my old screen looks. I'm currently using a 1993 trinitron for my family tv and will never get rid of it. I need to seek a better hdmi to composite adapter for my Apple TV. The expensive radio shack unit randomly cuts out, and it's not the cable.

CRTs for classic arcade games are great. They are terrible for watching television. Are you really watching modern television programming in standard resolution?

Yeah. Why is that a big deal? It's excellent for watching tv. I can cook in my kitchen and still see the tv. Something I couldn't do with my big @ss high def toshiba LCD. Crt looks perfect at any angle or distance. I got my current crt for free, and it's better in my opinion than many lcds. I just wish it had native hdmi. I remember when my parents bought the same model trinitron new at circuit city back in 1993 and thinking damn this tv is nice. I used to have a black and white tv.

Standard def is awful. You are just in some kind of weird denial. 480i looks like someone spread Vasoline over your display compared to 1080p. If you like it that is great for you I suppose. People used to ride horses everywhere. Now we have cars and airplanes. Arcade games look better on CRTs because that is what they were designed to use.

Well, wega trinitrons can display 720p and 1080i. I don’t even download movies in a higher res than 720p. And just because we now have cars and airplanes, that doesn’t mean that horses are crap. Each has pros and cons. Just the mere fact that lcds have ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- black tones and limited viewing angles is enough reason for me to stick with a nice crt. I don’t care if resolution is lower. Its less notable on a crt than running a low resolution on an lcd. My toshiba drove me nuts because of the layout of my living room, not every seat could see the tv well as it would start fading. New to me 23 year old tv can be seen anywhere in my living room and even in my kitchen. Works for me! :)

i've thrown away at least a dozen arcade tubes this year. our warehouse is only so big and you can only keep things so long before you need the space.

at this point in time unless it NEEDS a CRT (like a optical gun game) it get's an LCD.

To be fair, you're a business, not a preservation society. You do what you need to do.

It helps him feel less guilty and helps save cabs. Win win.

If the tube wasn't coming from the Great White North...I'd pay to have one shipped.

The 2nd pac-man I just picked up came with the glass on the front of the CRT scratched. (It was unknowticed by me when I went to pick it up)

Shoot the glass with a layer of clear coat.

Not a bad idea. Worth a shot if I can't buff it out.
