So where does everyone get their larger plastics for your CPs that are more than 36"? Also while you're here, what type do you prefer? What thickness do you prefer?

Plastic shops. I have a few shops locally I use:

I found the second one by calling one of those custom container/shelving/engraving stores and asked for a large unfinished piece of acrylic.
They pointed me to their supplier.
Home depot and Lowes sells large sheets as well, price sucks compared to plastic shops.
I like 1/16th inch acrylic(plexiglass). Clear and stands up to scuff real well. Its also easier to score and snap.
Using 2 sheets as a marquee holder.
Do not use 1/8" on 3/4" MDF for the control panel. Too thick, 1/16' is enough.

If you plan on using t molding around the edge of your panel I would consider using 5/8" wood with 1/8" plexi so you finish at 3/4" and can still use the most common size molding available.

That would have been the smarter thing to do.... but its not carried in smaller panels at the hardware store.
Maybe I should just look for a lumber yard...

Thanks for the advice. I did some calling around and found a place that will cut me a 24" x 48" x 1/16" for $25. I'm going with it. I think I'll do 1/16" plastic + 3/4" MDF and just take the bottom edge off of the MDF before I put the 3/4" moulding on. It is only the control panel so it shouldn't be hard...I hope.

You could just buy 13/16" t-molding and do an off centered slot cut.

Ended up stopping at Home Depot just to see what they had. To my surprise, they had 24" x 48" x .093" Optix acrylic for $27, so I just bought it. Not sure why .093, but it will work.
