I am having trouble figuring out dimensions to uncomfortably did two player. It is my first time doing a project like this. Any advice would be a big help. Thank you.

Q: How wide of a control panel is wide enough for two players?
A: Depends on the players.
Make a cardboard mockup or two.
- Print button layouts from Slagcoin (http://slagcoin.com/joystick/layout.html) so you can compare/test them.
(Install buttons if you have some available)
- Have the two largest people who might use your bartop put it to the test.
You will be able to tell pretty quickly if the panel is too narrow.

Mine is 24 inches, 600mm wide as i am using a 24 inch widesceen monitor so it needed to be that wide. But its a very nice size in that we can sit and not bash elbows.

Even though it might be uncomfortable with the American street fighter layout, I decided to go with that one since it was a little easier for me to measure. The panel I made was 32 inches wide by 10 inches long by 8 inches deep. I haven't made the monitor parts yet.

I also went with 24" for the CP, whole thing is a total of 25.5" with 3/7" thick side panels.
-
Yeah, I decided to make the CP wider then the monitor/cabinet I am using a 19 inch monitor.

Damn, I almost went with a 19" 4:3 monitor with my 24" setup.. but the screen looked so tiny in comparison with with the control panel.
Ended up with a 23" 16:10. Vertical height is about the same but it seems to just "fill out" better IMO:

I decided to use 19" do to the fact I was told anything bigger would stretch out the pixels of the games. But maybe a bigger monitor shouldn't be too bad?
-
As long as you keep the game's aspect ratio and don't force a streched fullscreen you should be fine.
Do you have a monitor larger than 19" available to you? Try it, its not bad at all IMO.
