Title: Groovy Arcade Linux - Rough scrolling, can't install on HDD
Post by: demol on February 18, 2017, 06:12:19 pm
Hey, i just recently tried to use Groovy Arcade Linux, which i thought would be a breeze but nope haha ^^ Anyway i noticed my games were not smooth at all sometimes, which is weird because when i show FPS, there is litterally noframe skipping and emulation is constantly at 100% with no drop.

Then, i thought it was maybe because i installed it on a USB stick (USB 3.0), which would surprise me but whatever. I tired to install on several HDD but it would always show me a message like partition active and then reboot. I tried to format several times, use different hard drives, fiddle with UEFI parameters and stuff, remove my windows drive but nothing changes, still won't boot. Weird

Anybody had this issue ? Or does anybody know what could cause rough scrolling ? It doesn't seem to do it on Windows, only in Groovy Arcade Linux. Maybe it's because the mame version is pretty outdated ?

You didn't mention what type of monitor your using. E.g. rough scrolling is expected on an LCD. On the other hand, if you're using a proper CRT, you should create a log to see what's causing it. There are several possible causes.

With regards to the installation issue, try asking Ves directly.

I'm using a CRT, so that's weird. I find it weird also, i installed w7 and did the whole thing again and have perfect scrolling, but now i have some issues with sound pitch which become distorted, so i'm kinda wondering if i have performance issues, but that would be very weird since i have a 4670k with 3.4/3.8 ghz...

How do i create a log ?

By the way, i wanted to ask you what are the advantages of using super resolutions vs standard resolutions in the modelines ? Like in the file, there doesn't seem to be a 224p input, and when i use frame delay i have bad tearing with super resolutions due to the scaling and when i used a standard 224p resolution it worked fine so i was wondering if i could just use normal resolution instead, but if it was that easy i'm sure super resolution would'nt be a thing so it must be deeper than that
