Title: Smart Strip and AV Receiver between PC and Display - Will it work?
Post by: 80sarcadegames on February 16, 2017, 02:14:36 pm
I have an AV Receiver laying around with 4 inputs and 1 output.
I want to do HDMI from the PC to the AV Receiver (Pioneer) then
HDMI out to the display.

I will be using a Smart Strip, but the Smart Strip will not turn
on the Pioneer AV Receiver right? The Smart Strip will just
turn on the electricity to it?

How can I force the AV Receiver to turn on automatically?

see if holding down the power button and plugging in the receiver will power it on. if it does and seems to operate normally when the power button is continuously held down (check and make sure you can still switch sources and whatnot) then it's as easy as shorting out the power button.

if not, you may have to research into using a capacitor to momentarily "short" the power button on. (basically wired across the button contacts, a capacitor acts like a dead short until it charges up, then it appears "open")

Might see if in the receiver there is an OSD menu with a setting like a computer, where the power would be the last state or always on.  Other than that, maybe some kind of serial command to the rs232 of the receiver if your pioneer has one and making a batch file to send a power on command from the computers com port?
