Title: MAME Frontend for Vertical XP/CRT?
Post by: daskrabs on February 16, 2017, 09:10:07 am
I'm wondering if I could get a few recommendations for a nice looking but resource-light MAME frontend for 32-bit XP and 15KHz (240p) CRT with a vertical orientation. What are people using nowadays? I don't wanna run something with movies that play for each game, just a logo or screenshot at most. Text is fine.

As an aside, I'm using a Radeon HD4350 video card and it's performing rather well. Great low cost alternative to an ArcadeVGA. Flashed the BIOS w/ Atom-15/ATIWinflash so that the boot screens are in 15Khz and CRT Emudriver for 240p gameplay.

I use MALA. I have a 19 inch vertical arcade cabinet that is running 32 bit XP. I run at 15KHz and 240p. I run the attract mode videos in the selection menu. It doesn't slow things down at all, but you don't have to use them.

On my main cab i had mala / Xp / 4350 combo and videos were noticeably slow to start. Switched to attract mode and they're instant. Mala is ok (i used it for nearly 10 years) but has too many limitations nowadays. Attract mode is far more versatile, lightweight and healthily supported. Check out YouTube for attract mode themes.
