9 times out of 10 how tall is it usually from base to controls? 2.5 feet? 3 feet? I calculated 2 foot 6 inches does that sound right? ill be standing most of the time so that factored in as well

Whatever is comfortable for you to play on.
But if your controls are at 2ft6 ime guessing you are much shorter than me!! :o

The lowest part of the control panel on my Dynamo cabinet is ~3 feet.
Keep in mind the panel is slanted and controls are half way up.

3ft here too.

Last night I played with a tape measure and a workbench...
I realized that my planned cab was going to feel a bit low. I measured the height of the bench surface as if it was my playing surface... 36" exactly, but it felt a little low for my height (6'3). I have two choices, change the design or modify the base. Since my base already has a 95mm rise to it, adding more would look stupid. I have decided to see if I can eek out an extra 2" on my sheets of wood and modify my design.
Do not speculate... imitate. You can likely find a surface that will allow you to stack books etc on it to adjust theoretical CP height. Also worth noting where your monitor will sit. Depending how your neck and arms are aligned, certain positions can be more fatiguing than others. Especially if you're tall. It's worth it, as it would have left me a bit sore had I not checked.

If you are doing a custom design, just do what feels most comfortable. Especially if you are average height. If you are super tall or short it will feel off for guests.

I would think the control being 2" higher for a guest would be much less painful than crouching 2" all the time... but maybe its just a matter of perspective :lol

You are about as tall as I am, and the way I look at it, I can build a riser for a short person, I can't dig a hole for myself.
I plan to make mine comfortable for myself, or the common height and build a riser for the whole unit to make it my height.
