I picked up a Retron5 used from my buddy for $120 CDN.
They retail for quite a bit here in Canada.
I like it. The ability to have wireless controllers (I did confirm with Hyperkin it will not work with a PS3 controller), HDMI out, and the ability to load ROMS all of which made this something I want.
I've been playing with it a little and liking it. With the exception of the Famicom stuff (Famicom/Super Famicom) I pretty much have every complete set of games it supports.
The translation patch hack is pretty cool. Mind you I think my SD card is pooched because I'm having a hard time loading stuff.
I plan on taking back my SD cards on Monday, exchanging them and revisiting this.
Anyone else using a Retron5 ? Thoughts ?

I don't have one. Anyone I know that has one isn't too fond of it. The gamepad is kind of crap and it's just an emulation box. They also stole source code from various free emulators and tried to pass it off as their own.
If you like it that's great and really all that matters, but I think there is a reason nobody replied.

Build quality sucks. I bought it so I can purchase Super Famicom and Mega Drive games to save some cash. I used the MegaDrive /Genesis cartridge slot about 3 times and now it wont read the cartridges anymore.

If you dropped the money on a SD card carts you should just buy some original hard ware. Or sell me your SD carts and your original games and just play them on Retro pi or an old PC.
The retro 5 does look cool.

So I've been getting a few projects here in order at the house.
Finally getting around to my Raspberry project's and finally getting the SD card ready for the Retron.
I had an issue where the Retron was not liking my R0M sets.
I actually did a factory reset and then upgrade to the unit only to find it was the R0M files...........
Got a few new sets and thought I'd give it a go.
All in all for what I paid I like it.
I've heard the build issue concerns, and I can see that.
The controller is crap...........mine wont move right.
I've got some generic versions of the NES controllers which I like.
And SNES and Genesis versions are en route from Ali Express.
I saw the 8bitdo (I think that was the brand name) controllers, my buddy suggests them.
But I don't wanna pay $100 CDN for the pair.
I'll keep an eye out though.
I'm actually trying a few other R0M sets now. I had some issues with Sega Master System games and I'm hoping to find a good set.
