Hi guys,
I've had a working J-PAC hooked up to a meme pc and 2 player config arcade panel. 6 buttons and one / two player plus joysticks. All was working fine until I attempted to change out the buttons and joysticks for LED lit ones.
I think I have blown something on the j-PAC (although looks fine, all lights look good on the board and no obvious damage)
Is it possible it's the cabling itself?
Only the 6 buttons work on player 2. No joysticks / no other buttons work.
I have reverted to all the old buttons / joysticks and still only the 6 player 2 buttons work.
Please help, I've ordered another j-PAC and loom to test, but wondered what you guys thought ?

Hi chap, I'm in Kent so not far :) but know nothing about the JPAC so probably wouldn't be able to do much more than kick the tires.
Assuming the buttons/stick work (it would be odd for ALL the controls on one side to fail). Is there a chance the ground wire has gone wonky between p1 and p2?
You could always try contacting Andy at Ultimarc. He's literally around the corner from you... ;D

Only player buttons 1-6 on player 2 work. No joysyicks work or player 1 buttons.
Must be cabling or a power issue. Cabling looks solid, just lost now.
Swapped the jpac and same story so not any board, and I don't think a power issue.
U think maybe ground?
Where's Andy at and will he spare me a few hours u thinks?

Andy's based in Wimbledon I think - best thing would be to give him a call/send an email. If you've tried another JPAC and it still isn't working then I suspect it's either your wire to the control (I suspect ground) or MAME has lost your config for some reason.
To check if MAME has lost controls:
1. Connect a keyboard to your machine,
2. Open up MAME and run a game that uses standard controls (ie Street Fighter 2)
3. Press [TAB] on the keyboard and select "Input (General)" and then "Player 1 Controls".
4. Press [Enter] to set the control for P1 up.
5. Push your P1 joystick up.
6. If it recognises your controller, then set the rest of missing controls accordingly. If it doesn't do anything then MAME isn't recognising your controls. Then, my best guess it's a wiring issue. Someone else might be able to chime in with something else though.
I've got some friends in Surbiton so next time I'm around that way (probably not for a few months) I'll PM you and see if you're about.

Like mark says, 99% likely grounding issue.
Take one of the working buttons and swap the input (but not the ground) onto a non-working button.
If formerly non-working button remains non-working, then there is a break in the ground loop (because we already know that the board recognizes that input fine).
