Title: Stargate monitor cage.
Post by: ark_ader on February 03, 2017, 02:27:06 pm
If this is in the wrong forum please move.

OK I have a stargate that I am working on, which is a shell.  I was going to put a LCD screen in, but would like a crt in there.  I picked up a cheap 19 inch with composite inputs as I will be using a rasberry pi or Xbox until I can get a new board for it.

I have been looking online about decasing the TV, grounding etc, but I am sure I will need a monitor cage to install it on the shelf inside the cabinet, as the case needs to be completely removed to line up the bezel.

Any suggestions where I can find said monitor cage?

Just move the monitor shelf so that the set sits at the right height.

I thought of that, but it isn't too practical.  I went down to a local operator today and had a look what he had available and the choices I had was install a LCD (I have two), de-case the TV and buy a dead 19 inch arcade monitor and use the frame, or just put the TV in there and mask out the bezel.  There should be room on the shelf to get the whole TV in there, and less chance of getting zapped by a cap.

I'm also looking at this alternative:

The TV allows the Xbox, and the LCD limits me to PC or the pi-zero.

I just don't want to go backwards and ruin anything and regret it later.

I have done the same thing to the same cabinet to solve the same problem. It took almost no time.

I would actually look for a 21" crt PC monitor and use that. They go into Williams cabinets really nicely.

I removed the monitor shelf board to find another bolted on.  This gave me 1 inch of extra space, and the TV in the case fit perfectly.  Plopped a modded xbox with a stock drive and got a decent amount of games installed.

The only problem I have now is keeping the 40/50 year old kids away from the cabinet.  One guy wanted to put quarters in it. Maybe I need to put a bill changer on the coin door and walk away. :)

The control panel is a real mess.
