My favorite line: "Cost over $4000 brand new!" Yeah, so did my old Kia that rusted away. XD

Sick coin operated baseball arcade...

Something about that particular game seems to attract people with intense delusions as to its value. I dealt many years ago with a guy that had been given one in payment in exchange for some contracting work he had done. He didn't like it when I told him he got rooked.
Probably didn't earn worth a damn and was a difficult conversion so operators cleared them out cheap... Always seems to be in good shape.

What's the title of that one? The guy never says.

Looks like a Double Play to me, but I think there were a couple of others that used those weird controls.

It probably did, and let us remember that 4 grand back in 1980 wasn't chump change. As far as ROI well its dated and in good shape for a restore. The main point in this post, is to be careful what you say. It is not a nice thing to say about someone wanting to sell a cab. Fran-ken cabs etc we can have a laugh at, but if someone wants to sell a cab for a stupid price, it is up to him. You want the cab pay him or make an offer.
I think we had a consensus about posts like these and I think this a good example of taking a step back before pushing the post button. The very same person running the ad might be viewing this site.
I would like a mod to chime in here too. This negative behavior has to stop. :soapbox:

*sigh*
OK, I'll grant you that the post title is negative. It was inspired by years of reading jalopnik's "nice price or crack pipe?" posts. They post an ad for a specialty car for sale, and the readers vote if it's a good price or if the seller must be smoking something.
Now, as for my reasoning for being negative. Anyone who tries to sell anything this old, and tries to justify the price based on the original 198x cost, NEEDS to be made fun of. While I'm no expert on these cabs, I do know that nearly none have ever gone UP in value, past their original cost. This isn't akin to a 1970 challenger (cost $4000, worth $40,000), more like a high end 1990s stereo (cost $1000, worth $50). Have you ever bought a 15-20 year old Mercedes? I have. The seller always says the same thing: "this was $50,000 brand new!" Yeah well, there's a reason it blue books for only $5000, pal.
This is a broken machine. YES, the guy can sell it for whatever he wants. But something is only worth what someone else will pay for it. Arcade machines here get scooped up within one day, because they rarely come up for sale. This one is still listed over a week later.
And while I'm not in the market for another cab yet, if I ever am again, you best believe I'll be having conversations with people like this.

I don't think adults really need their online feelings protected by someone else. If something hurts your feelings let people know. I haven't really run into anyone on here that would turn the screws after being told to stop. Maybe it just hasn't happened to me yet. Of course I have never been bothered in the least by people typing mean things about me on the internet. :dunno

It's a Craigslist ad. I would feel differently if somebody posted something for sale here and somebody started price policing their forum post, but otherwise, who cares? If the seller is a member here, then shame on him for trying to overinflate the value of something that he should know is crap. Or conversely, good for him for trying to maximize the value of what he's trying to sell. Either way, it's nothing hosted here. Whatever.

There was also no way to ever purchase that new. At no point were Joust cabinets with Robotron bezels, bootleg overlays and flat black wooden marquees ever available with Cinematronics baseball kits as a new product.
Also, IIRC, a new Robotron was like 2199 and those Cine baseball kits were under 1000.
Those baseball games tended to attract older people that didn't usually play arcade games. I have talked to more than one person who bought them because it was the only game their father would play, only to later realize that dad just wasn't going to play it now.

I played those Cinematronics baseball games a lot BITD and have been on the lookout for one at the right price (cheap).
Did they ever make a dedicated Cinematronic baseball or were they all conversions?

I used to play them, too. I liked the bat control.

Same here. The controls made the game.

World Series: The Season through Strike Zone were available in the Cinematronics "Cinemat" cabinet.
