Title: Adding an external HDD light to an arcade cab

I have an arcade machine and i want to add an external hdd light to the control panel of the cabinet. Would i just buy a red led and splice it from the motherboard or is there an easier way?

Why??

But to answer your q you can just  splice into the PC's HDD LED and connect it in parallel or you can just extend the existing one if you can pull it out.

I too would like to know the reasoning why.

Not sure if your Mame setup is in a cased PC or not. If so just remove the existing one and extend it. Or just buy or make something like THIS (https://www.amazon.com/Drive-Cable-Indicator-Light-Computer/dp/B013HTYLVO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1485637511&sr=8-5&keywords=hdd+light).

I like to see the activity of the hard drive  :afro:  That is the only reason.

I've done that many years ago and lucked out i got no dust inside of it.  I currently use a 1tb samsung evo SSD drive.
