I have tons of files on my main PC that I need to transfer to my cab. I don't use my cab to get emus and roms, and it only connects via wifi. Right now I have the Romsets on detachable USB drives, and in the past have plugged them into the cab and copy the files. This takes a few hours depending on which files I'm copying over. Does anyone know of a lightning fast way to transfer over 50-100gigs from one drive to another. I've used FastCopy and AllWaySync but they still take a while. My only other option is to hardware the Ethernet to the cab, but it's the matter of going through three rooms and downstairs. Thoughts? Thanks

Yay, a question I can actually answer:
The fastest way will be to pull the source drive out and place it in the destination PC in which you want to transfer the data to. i.e. both drives are on the same SATA bus.
You can also purchase a USB 3 or an external drive bay that has eSATA but then you need the accompanying interfaces in the destination PC (your cabinet PC).
Otherwise, start the job before you go to sleep. :)

^^ What he said. Take the drive out of the PC, install it into the other PC and transfer. Speed will be limited to the hardware you have though.

Just start the transfer and go get a sandwich. Damn.

Get two drives, while you are at it and raid 0, just to be safe.

What about portable HDs? I have a WD 1 TB thats unused and figured i can add and back up my mame ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- on it. Is it the same difference and still gonna be slow?

RAID 0 and safe go together like salt and an open wound.
Start the transfer, go to sleep, and when you wake up and it's done it'll feel like it's only been a few minutes. Magic!

Dude, you've not going to get the blazing fast speeds you want to get. Deal. Rock 'n roll.

.... same deal. if youre transferring 1tb if data, either way its a decent chunk of change.. Just copy, paste, and go to bed.. really.
