I have a Wells-Gardner 27" D9200 that clicks when plugged in, neck emits a blue spark when plugged in, displays no video, has no neck glow.
What can I do? How can I fix this? :'(
-
What's my best approach to this problem?
Should I try calling local TV/appliance repair shops in my area who have experience with old TVs and see if they can fix this monitor?
Should I pull the chassis board and send it to one of these guys on eBay who offers repairs? I've seen a couple people charging varying prices to fix a WGD9200 board. Will that help?
Should I try to find a local arcade repair expert in reasonable distance from Northeastern Pennsylvania and bring it to them to fix it?
I'm not sure which way to turn but based on some fruitless google searches for a suitable replacement monitor at any price I think I'm best off trying to get this repaired.
-
I found a local TV repair guy and called him, he thinks he can do the job but he says he needs all the service literature for the monitor.
I have the parts list and full schematic that came with the monitor, is there anything else available for this monitor in the way of service and repair documentation? I want to make sure I give the guy everything that's available.

blue spark from neck would indicate a crack in the tube or something shorting in the neck
-
The tube won't hold a charge so yeah, looks like it's cracked. I have to find a replacement tube in order to fix it. Doesn't look good.
-
that tube and yoke combo is an odd one. you won't find a plug and play solution.
source: have d9200 tubes... can't find a universal chassis to drive it.
you'll likely have to pull the yoke and swap it to a tube
-
The repair shop guy who looked at it for me says he can swap out the yoke if I can manage to acquire a replacement tube.
I need a Thomson A68AEG25X07 tube but the one site I found selling them for $119 plus shipping is out of stock.
-
virtually any similar size tube will work once you swap the yoke, only issues could be heater current and of course neck pinout
-
most 10 pin tubes are all pinned out the same. and the heaters are all 6.8 volts. worst case you have some swapped colors (easily fixable by rearranging wires)
basically find any A68AE series tube and it will most likely work. the closer to the original number the better of course.
manufacturer doesn't matter.
for instance - A68AEG25X07
A - means a TV tube
68 - means the diagonal size in CM
AEG - is the family code
25 - is the sub family/neck properties (neck size...gun type...etc) single digit numbers for monochrome tubes... 2 digit for color
X - Phosphor type (in this case P22 color RBG with medium persistance)
07 - yoke and other neck components like purity rings etc.

That's good news, so in other words this one should work?

It's the closest thing to the A68AEG25X07 I can find, it's a A68AEG25X05. If I understand you correctly the only difference should be yoke and neck components, is that right? They also have the 01, 02, and 03 listed as in stock but the 07 is out of stock.
Do I have to ask to make sure it doesn't have a bonded yoke that we can't remove before I buy one, or is that a given?
-
the yoke won't match anyways. It would have to be swapped. the other neck components for convergence you'd keep.
as for bonded/unbonded... it's best to ask.
-
Do you think it's best to buy that tube that's not quite an exact match or would I be better served following the suggestion someone else made on the main board about looking for a chassis-dead D9200 with a working tube I can cannibalize?
-
at this point in time it's best to get what you can get. tubes are something akin to unicorn poo.
most of the start of your tube number matches and that's all that really matters. all the other numbers are fluff describing the crap attached to the tube (which you will swap from the old tube anyways.)

Bonded yokes can be removed by heating them with a heat gun and twisting them free.

According to the VDC site they have the A68AEG25X05 in stock but upon calling them that's not the case, they have NO A68 tubes in stock at all, period. Long gone, the woman on the phone said.
So I guess I'll be trying to find a chassis-dead D9200 to pull a tube from, it's my only hope.
