Title: Midway/Mortal Kombat I coin mechanism
Post by: jtb1987 on January 11, 2017, 11:21:09 pm
Hi everyone,

I'm trudging along on my first mame project -
I had obtained a Midway Mortal Kombat cabinet that had been converted to Tekken 3 and am continuing on my way to converting it to a mame cabinet.

I'd like to see if I can get any help with the coin mechanism. When all is said and done, I'd like to have a fully operational coin mechanism for player 1 and player 2 (in addition I hope to have a button combination config to also insert coin).

The cabinet came with what I understand to be the original coin mechanism but it's in pretty rough shape and I'm not sure what all will need to be done to it in order to restore it/use it.

Therefore, my question is where I would I go about finding an equivalent coin mech that will fit this space? Do vendors sell mechs that are replicas of this one? I haven't been too successful in finding a coin mechanism to fit the cabinet space.

What are my options in this situation - how difficult will it be to buy one in good condition vs. finding a way to restore the one that I have?

Next question once I either find & buy a new mech, how do you go about connecting it to your JPAC?

Thanks for any help!!!

You have a Coin Controls (a.k.a. Wells-Gardner) brand over/under coin door assembly. Yours is one of the later versions with the quick release (swings up) coin mech retaining brackets. In general you should use Coin Controls "Gold Mech" coin acceptors:

Here's an older parts catalog:

Most parts are available from Happ Controls.

I made a picture I.D. guide for all the parts here:

Ken thanks so much for the reply and resource material - searching the Happ website I came across this -

Is this size standard? Is there a way to know for certain it will fit that MK1 Midway cab hole?

so you want to replace the door, not the mechs?

Right there in the specs:

"Industry standard mounting dimensions."

The coin machine industry standardized on mounting dimensions for that style of over/under coin door back in 1985. So likely it will directly fit the existing hole in your cabinet.
