Title: Monitor recommendations?
Post by: brandon_brummett on January 11, 2017, 01:23:26 pm

Made the post below yesterday, and after getting no responses, and tinkering with drivers, etc. I decided it would be easier to use an LED or LCD computer monitor.  Given that, what brand and size would you all recommend to use for a cabinet build?

"I have a dell dimension E521 and installed an ATI X1300 Pro into it.  Prior to installing the X1300, Mame and Nestopia both worked on the computer.  After installation when I run Mame I get an error message saying that my video card cannot support 3D Objects.  Is that accurate for the X1300 Pro, or is there a garbled driver that is causing the issue?"

A video card driver error is not going to be fixed by replacing the monitor. It doesn't sound like a monitor problem at all.

You are correct.   :)

When I run Mame and Nestopia on a monitor with the onboard VGA port, things work fine.  It's either a faulty card or driver situation, or the X1300 isn't compatible with what I want to do.

Last night I did full deletes of the existing drivers, and reinstalled the driver(s) for the X1300 (several attempts using latest versions of the drivers from ATI and Dell).  I still couldn't get things working correctly.  Nestopia and MyNES won't run at all, and Mame will only work using the -video gdi command.  So I decided to scrap the X1300 and old TV and move to using the onboard port and an LCD or LED monitor.

That being said, any recommendations on size and going with LCD or LED?

And thanks for responding, I have made a couple of posts on here and you are the first person to respond.  :)
