Title: Wells-Gardner 27" D9200 - no video, what do?
Post by: gravitar80 on January 07, 2017, 12:24:32 pm
I have a Wells-Gardner 27" D9200 that displays no video. I can hear it click normally when it powers on but nothing ever appears on the screen. Doesn't matter if I have the VGA connected or not, there's nothing. I know about the D9200 being a PoS, but I didn't when I bought it in 2004. It's been dead for a few years and I'm finally getting around to fixing it.

Am I correct in thinking that buying a cap kit for the monitor and replacing the caps is the right move? I bought it new so I know they've never been replaced. What's the best way to find someone who can do that? I was planning to call some local appliance repair shops and try to find a TV/radio tinkerer who could do the job.

Is there a better way? Am I way off in diagnosing the problem? What should I do?

Does the neck glow? Smarter people than me will probably chime in but no glow no go?  :dunno

I don't think so? Would I know it if I saw it? The neck is the back of the tube, right?

I don't remember ever seeing a glow there when the monitor used to work, but I didn't poke around it much when it worked.

Yeah, power it up in the dark and the neck should glow around the pins at the back of the tube.
Its a faint amber light that can be very dim.

When I turn off the light and plug the monitor in, I see a blue spark briefly flash at the end of the neck and it makes a buzzing noise.

I'm guessing that's bad?

Are there any Wells Gardner service manuals or literature for the WG D9200 beyond the parts list / schematic six pager I already have?  I found a local repair shop and the owner thinks he can fix my monitor but he says he needs all the service literature and I want to make sure I gather up everything that's actually available.

yeah, whatever wells gardner has on site is about it.

as long as he has a schematic he should be good.

My tube is blown. I need to find a replacement tube or junk the whole monitor.

Argh.

Repair guy hooked my tube up to his tester and it's totally dead, possibly cracked. He says he can replace the tube if I find a replacement, but I did some searching and as far as I can tell there are no replacement tubes available on the internet. I need a Thomson A68AEG25X07 tube and the one and only site I found selling them says they're out of stock.

Where can I get a replacement tube for a Wells Gardner D9200?

Easiest place to get a good D9200 tube is one a bad D9200. The boards fail on them way more often than the tubes. Call all the amusement guys in town and see if anyone has a broken D9200 you can buy for parts. I have one in St. Louis but I am probably not local and I am not shipping a used 29" tube with burn on it.

On the monitor board on the forum they told me it would most likely work with a tube that's similar enough, I found an A68AEG25X05 for sale online that should probably work..  or should I instead try to find a dead D9200 to cannibalize? But I'm not sure where I would find one around here (northeastern PA).
