Well new year, new season! :)
So i figure we should start off with something fun and semi relaxing! Popping balloons to celebrate the new year!
High Score Competition Rules and Scoreboard

Joystick: 4-way joystick

The object of the game is to use your gun to pop bubbles that bounce around your screen. There are two different modes in this game: Panic Mode or Arcade Mode. When a player pops a bubble, it splits into two smaller bubbles. This happens repeatedly, but eventually, the bubbles get so small that they pop when shot. Occasionally, monsters will walk or fly on to the screen, these can be seen as a help or harm to the player. When the player touches a monster, they die, but monsters can pop bubbles. This is the next part of super pang with added stages. There are several powerups that can be found throughout the game. These are found by either popping certain bubbles, shooting boxes, or shooting certain spots in the level that are not marked. The gun powerups cannot be used in conjunction with each other.

Panic mode or tour mode ?
-
Tour/Arcade mode :)
If you go 1cc ing it we might have to go for panic LOL
-
Nope, I definitely won't (be able to) 1cc this. The panic mode would save time since the games probably wouldn't take that long ;D
-
LOL thats true but wheres the fun in that! :p

I'll get us started: 365,920

I had Super Buster Bros. on my machine, as I use the US ROM when the JP/World ROMs are the same.
Any confirmation of them being functionally equivalent in this case?
To be on the safe side, I set up spang.
First game: 802,370 in world 2-14. Great series of games. Especially fun 2-player.
Thanks,
-Jason

Crikey the bars been set lol

Closing in on the 800K mark -- 742,760
Hate the way the high score blinks so the screenshot doesn't get the score to show up but at least the overall high still is showing it !
-
912,540. Impatience and this game go really well together. I find myself constantly screaming abuse at the screen.

Just hit F12 rapidly a few times and you are bound to get a good screenshot eventually.

Why am I so awesome all of a sudden?

I am definitely too impatient for this game. Also, I have found it is easier to pause the game when the high score is showing then do a screenshot.

Not to derail but for anyone who likes Pang check out The Bug Butcher (https://www.destructoid.com/review-the-bug-butcher-334931.phtml). Basically a modernized version of Pang play mechanics with a L/R dash and power ups. Everything old is new again, I'm sure kids have no idea it derives it's game play from Pang.

I have always thought this series was great, and always been absolutely horrible at it. Ugh,
Feliz aņo nuevo
-
I have always hated these games, now I hate them even more.
Got to level 14, had 6 lives, died 5 times in a row. Un-be-####ing-lievable.
Anyway. 1,256,590.

Its meant to be a relaxing start to the year :p
Though atm I cant view any high scores on Pang, They are all blacked out atm for some reason so until I work out WTF is going on with the I cant up my anti any!
-
Can you enter your initials ? A pic of that screen would work, too.
-
Nah that was blacked out to but I fixed it now :) I had to delete the hiscore date file for it.
-
So, time to relax then and off you go to beat jason's score ;D
-
Played a bit more. Gotta keep all you threats at bay!
Didn't top my score. Almost matched it.
Had a *great* beginning (see attached):
no deaths
6 spare guys in waiting (I can consistently break 2 free guys out of blocks on a couple levels, & I know where 1 is on a high level that I don't often reach--there are a few free guys to be had here & there)
6.3M
level 12.
Was so happy I paused for a moment to take a pic. Then, I comically lost life after life after life in rapid succession. It was so bad it was funny.
Tip: go for the food--worth oodles of points!
-Jason
-
Is that a pic of a two player game ?
-
I play the right side, 1-player. I prefer that joystick (they're different sticks on my cab).

-

-
The first scoreboard.

SlyBlueFox, your turn to pick the next game.
-
Titch, please don't forget to post the final scores at the end of the thread and in the first post, so that popsicle can later on easily update the High Score Competition Rules and Scoreboard (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,143138.0.html) thread.
-
Sorry matey I thought you always did that and didnt want to step on your toes :p
-
Nope, I only did that when the OP did not. I can't remember where I read it, but the rules state that the OP should post the scores and ranking after the first week (at the end of the thread) and the final scores and ranking at the end of the thread and in the first post. Since I can't modify someone else's posts, I will obviously not be able to post the scores & rankings in the first post.
Popsicle keeps an eye on the scores and puts the first three into the 'High Score Competition rules and scoreboard' thread, so it will be easiest for him just to look at the first post of each compo and find the scores there.
Also, the person who ends up in third place should post a link to the new compo at the end of the old one, so that one can find the new compo without having to look in the main forum / using search.

I was unaware of this full picture as well. Great to know. Although it's seeming more I more like I may never have to worry and, haha!

Whelp, I had this actual PCB in my hands a few months ago. LOL. It would have been cool to play it on the actual hardware back then for this high score competition.
Very cool game choice! Wish I had participated.

Sorry for the delay, fellas (real life and such). Competition thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=143138.msg1484454#msg1484454)updated. Congratulations yamatetsu! The bronze joystick is off for engraving.
-
Thanks!
I had a look at the competition thread. #208 Super Pang: acvieluf was very far away from winning that one. And while I'm at it: It's j.fitzenr, not jfitziner.
