167,200. This is a game that I actually like. Though it does look horrible with my HLSL settings and even more so without it.

For starters, you could read the mission briefing  :) At the beginning of each level you are told that you have to 'treat' x bombs. The bombs are behind the red doors, so you have to go to the door, push 'up' to enter it and 'down' to leave. You can also enter blue doors for a bonus. You have to 'treat' all bombs and reach the level exit in time. Simple.
One more thing. After a while an alarm goes off, which means that more enemies are spawning. That alarm can be turned off by entering a red door.

Love this game. Have played it only a little before. Love the graphics, the upgrades, the level of violence, & I'm glad it's got the smooth jazz soundtrack, as a moody one would probably give me the willies.

Took me a long to figure out I had bombs & how to use them. Hold both buttons for a second.

117,600. I hope to play a few more times.

Thanks,
-Jason

For those of you who want to paint the walls red with your enemies' blood : Hit F2, go to 'configuration', switch 'violence mode' to hard. Enjoy !

And who doesn't like a little relaxing painting? Where's the "like" button for this post?

 :applaud:

136,200. Got pretty well into level 3. I was baited by a goody, but there was some little pea-shooter gun in the right wall that kept plinking bullets at me. I don't think it was shootable. Ducking probably would have been advisable...

Out of interest what characters u guys using? I seem to have the most luck with the Woman.

I love the game but the title has got to be the worst ever LOL
Title: Re: High Score Competition #207: Elevator Action Returns
Post by: yamatetsu on December 29, 2016, 02:52:48 pm
I use the first guy. Hasn't got the woman's firepower, but a longer health bar.

Regarding the flying guys in lvl3 : Go to the lower right or left corner, crouch, keep constantly shooting. Due to the crouch you cannot be hit by high bullets, occasionally one guy sinks into the floor and shoots low at you, jump up, dodge the bullet, crouch again. Easy peasy.

Either the Woman or the first guy seem to be the best 2 ( the heavy guy seems the worst as his speed and weapon are too weak)

As for the Title, I think they were trying to leverage the fan base for the original Elevator Action game !

EDIT : guess I should post a score since I keep forgetting toward the end of the week to post lately - 141,000

I use the first guy but the girl is pretty good too. The only problem for me when using anyone but the first guy is I cannot blow up the red boxes with her bomb.

Press down, then bomb, and she'll drop it right in front of her. Shes my favorite for speed and gun power.

That's what I had read & I kept trying to no avail. Apparently it had something to with the buttons I had bound to the jump & fire buttons in MAME - I remapped them & it started to work correctly just now. Thanks.

I finally beat this sucker. Not worth it. You just get some credit screens. Didn't even do a new high score.

Some vids.

Level 1-3.

http://youtu.be/eMQ3cKZr9XQ (http://youtu.be/eMQ3cKZr9XQ)

Level 4-5.

http://youtu.be/zvcDSuEZMos (http://youtu.be/zvcDSuEZMos)

Final level.

http://youtu.be/GmMvuStVgIU (http://youtu.be/GmMvuStVgIU)

Note how I apparently commit suicide on level 5. 'Pull the stick twice in the direction you are facing to run' doesn't work for me, so I never run in this game. The one time I accidentally start to run I end up getting crushed. Oh, how I laughed.

Good thing for both of us Wakimiko didn't hang around XD.

It would have made it a lot more interesting, that's for sure. But by the time he started making points, I already was 13 points ahead. He'd have had to make 14 points good on me in 11 games, which would at least have been a challenge.

Sorry to dig this up but just wanted to ask the guys who played this a Q.

When I was playing i intermitantly got a black screen for a few secs.

I thought it may of been my vga cables so replaced it but its still doing it.

But seemingly only on this game?

Anyone else have this prob?

Hey, totally legal to revisit *any* old competition & post a new score or comment. Somebody was maintaining an all-time high score thread, I thought, where folks could go back to finished competitions & try to beat the best scores.

As for graphics performance, I'm using old .115u2 & a rather old PC, & my machine finds running Elevator Action Returns to be challenging. Some audio chopping, some low framerates sometimes, some non-smooth scrolling. But no black screens.
