Title: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Before the great arcadecontrols blackout of 2016, I had posted about possibly making a 4 person cocktail cab for Sjaak's version of Pacman Battle Royale.  However, after thinking about it and getting the advice of many on these forums, it didn't seem there were a lot of other games that could be played in that format and as a result making harder to justify to the wife.

At my workplace, I happened to stumble upon this familiarly shaped desk/table extension in the discard pile, and Eureka, the idea for "Pacman Versus" 4 player pedestal was born.

I quickly 3D modeled this to play with where to attach the pedestal base to the top and determine if the build was going to be stable enough.   Also, I wanted to play with my idea that every controller and button would be yellow, so that the iconic Pacman wouldn't be marred by other colors.   I would put decals on the pedestal base with a logo that would be a rift on the Pacman 256 game.  (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=149895.0;attach=353993;image)

My first attempts to make it more Pacman like with the mouth facing the right, resulted in a less than comfortable setup for the 4th player as she will be at an extreme angle to the screen.  Also there was less room for the base to attach to the top if the mouth was at this angle.

The next idea was to rotate it so that the mouth was facing forward and thus the controllers were in a more traditional and more comfortable 4 person setup.  However, I wonder if the theme of Pacman would be less evident to people this way.

So besides the side art for the pedestal, I realized there wouldn't be much pizzazz to the build.

I then thought it would be awesome if I could make it animated like this:

I figured that I could cover the open section with a piece of smoked plexi, and use yellow leds to simulate the effect seen above.

Do you think it would be worth the effort? Or annoying?

Bolt it to a stool.

Paint a bow on it to make it Ms. Pac-Man.

Glue a Fleshlight to the underside so that it's facing outward from the mouth.

And go ---fudgesicle--- yourself.

Edit: Damnit pbj I had mine written before your post, but spent the extra time finding a pinky pic.

While I appreciate the thought process, that's going to make for a very large and unwieldy pedestal. And really the whole point of a pedestal is to save space.

Depending on your skill and ambition you could mechanise the mouth using a wind screen washer motor or similar to move a plate under your table top.

Because of it's unwieldy size... I'd say do the LED thing and mount it to the wall. It would be cool.

One of my favorite quotes:

"Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn't."

Or this:

"Advice is what your father(-in-law) considers his opinion to be even though you didn't ask for and he gets pissed off when you didn't do it his way"

:P

I liked Ikeacade. However, if this was to be your third build - it'd be like Godfather 3. If it's your second, it'd be like the Stone Roses' second Album, Second coming.

You could always make a big Trivial Pursuits out of it...

I guess nobody was really thinking what I was thinking!   :)

Thanks for everybody that gave some constructive criticism and I would have to agree that the profile would be a little too large to be practical.  Back to the drawing board.
