Title: Ideas for holding AnyCoin coin mech's in place
Post by: 8BitMonk on December 12, 2016, 10:44:16 am
I've replaced several of my coin mech's with AnyCoin's universal mech's (http://www.arcaderestoration.com/products/1/ACV2/Any+Coin+TM+V2.aspx) and love them but they tend to fall out when the coin door is opened and closed. I've thought of putting a glob of poster tack on the ends, a rubber grommet or using a rubberband to hold them in place. Wondering if others have had the same issue and what they've done to remedy it.

Thanks!

They should have included the industry standard 6-32 coin mech mounting studs like these:

However sometimes you can get away with using plain 6-32 by 1/4" long screws.

Thanks for the suggestion, not sure where the screw would go since the coin mech usually just snaps into place. With the standard coin mech the pressure is enough for it to stay put whereas these float loosely in the bracket. The tabs (red arrow in pic) do remove so i guess I could try a screw there but I don't think the plastic is threaded for a screw.

A coin acceptor usually has a total of 6 threaded holes (3 per side) in which to screw in the 6-32 mounting studs. Which holes get used depends upon the particular coin door it's going to be used in.

The picture on anycoin's website shows a version with threaded holes.

Try computer case thumbscrews. I've used them with success.

Thanks for the suggestions! The holes in the AnyCoins aren't threaded but the right size screw seems to thread itself and hold snugly. I didn't have any extra thumbscrews around but scrounged up a random one that works, think it's metric. I'll run to Hardware Hank tomorrow to match it and buy a bunch.

Mine were missing a couple of screw posts -- I used a hot glue gun and "welded" my mechs on to the doors, and it's held well for 8 years. Net net - if you can get it held in place with some posts, the glue gun can help secure it.
