Title: Project: Custom Body with Lights for Racing Rig
Post by: Insayne on December 06, 2016, 03:22:09 pm
Hello fellow BYOAC people!

I have been lurking here for a while, and think it is time to contribute (at least with a post!) after all this time.

So one day, I wanted to enhance my gaming room and since I enjoy racing quite a bit, love arcades I thought it would be time to pimp up my racing seat. But I didn’t want things to end here, I wanted to make working Brake, Reverse and Blinker lights.  Continuing on this idea, I wished to also make it look “Retro”; Early 3D Racing Games like Virtua Racing would provide a simple aesthetic while allowing me to use my basic woodworking skills.

So without much further ado, here are some pictures and a prototype-test video.

That's pretty cool. I see its like an auto blinker when you turn left or right. What does it mean when all the lights are blinking at the same time?

If it were me, I'd go all the way and build a full car frame in that style around your whole cockpit. That would be cool.

That is the clutch pedal, which i mapped to turbo (in most arcade racers anyhow!)
I was thinking of extending it in the future, at least a front/bumper, not sure about the sides yet (due to space issues)
I should get the last things done tomorrow and should be able to upload some finished project pictures :)

Looks good!  You know, if you wanted to color those lenses easily, they sell colored tape for headlight repair that matches real tail light colors and look good when lit.

Noice! I love the Scud Race F40 theme.
