Title: Any used HappSuzo fake coin door?
Post by: Jakobud on December 06, 2016, 03:10:49 pm

Has anyone ever used one of these in a cabinet? As far as I can tell it is a fake door with fake coin slots and the buttons are fake too. I would be interested in something like this but it would be nice if I can make the buttons light-up AND make them pushable with a microswitch. Anyone gone down this road before?

Forget a lame and obviously fake coin door. Just get a real coin door and wire microswitches behind the reject buttons, or get the groovy game gear nova gem reject buttons.

If you look at this thread on KLOV it looks like yots has experience

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=301624 (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=301624)

Also if you go to twisted quarter there are many options that might work for $45-$70

I would think it is a full coin door minus the guts. It might be more cost effective to look at places like http://thearcadeboneyard.com/coin_doors_and_parts/coin_doors.php (http://thearcadeboneyard.com/coin_doors_and_parts/coin_doors.php) or Ebay for a complete used one. i got mine for $75 including shipping.

That door is real, it just doesn't have the mechs or the mech holders.

Yep,  it's a real door, minus the back stuff. You can make it functional if you want to go that route.

It's been a long time since I bought a coin door... I still have 5 or so for future projects, but I've found that buying a used door on ebay is waaaaaay cheaper than buying anything from happ.  You can usually get a decent used door for 20-30 bucks and it'll be complete, not just the top half like that one.  Keep in mind the older ones are built like a tank, so you can buy one that looks like it's been on the bottom of the ocean for 10 years, sand it and paint it and it'll be like new.

There is much truth in this. If I can get one used or locally from a buddy, I'll take that over brand new door every day. Even if I buy new inserts and door parts, it still ends up being cheaper in the long run.

Is it difficult to wire up a microswitch on the coin reject buttons to act as credit buttons? I feel like it would be easy but I can't recall seeing anyone post pics of that process before.

It's easy depending on your coin door.  Here's an example:

I prefer this method and you can put the coin up on the CP like you did back in the day:

Even easier to rig a leaf switch!  :lol
