Both look great, good job. Question though, is it normal to have the controls on the top like that? I dont think ive seen a cocktail like that.

That's honestly probably more comfortable to play in that configuration.

I really like the controls on top.  Those graphics are sick too.  Nice job!

What's under the hood?

I like the art under the glass, but the sides are too busy for my tastes. I could see how kids would like it though. Im wondering whats under the hood as well.

Those graphics are fantastic.  They look fresh and modern.

Is that top plastic or glass?  It does look like it would be easier to play with the controls on top.

I'm sure it's plexi.  It'd be way too expensive otherwise.

its plex, 3/16 so good and strong, running an RPi3 under the hood, build the wiring harness myself.

The controls on the top came out of my distaste for building cocktails with the control panel below the glass. I did an exact copy of a Pacman cocktail and it drove me crazy trying the make everything line up and look right, then I was always cracking my knuckles on the top while I was playing.

So fast forward, now I cut the tops and the plex on my CNC and assembly is pretty straight forward.

Ooooh... you mentioned the forbidden hardware... now you will be cursed by some forum members that are on the crusade to get rid of all Rpi's from arcade cabinets  ;D

This is horribly inaccurate. When people run RPis for running older games like pacman its great. When someone wants to try and play Gauntlet Legends with one or emulate PS2s it's dumb.

Nice job. Controls make more sense on top.
Love the artwork!

You got me wrong.. I'm positive to Raspberry Pi's, and most here are as well. However there are a few individuals that get allergic reactions as soon as anyone recommend the Rpi's (regardless if it is for classic games or not)   ::)

Back to topic - the builds are great. And from an ergonomic perspective I consider this as a better design. The common design was biased to beverages rather than players.
However I might think it looks odd, since it isn't "authentic"... But the only coctail I have is a Track & Field and there the CP is accessible and not hidden below a drink table

$1,000 ain't too bad.  I wouldn't / couldn't do it for less.

What software setup are you using on the Pi's?

Running RetroPie of course, I dont try to reinvent the wheel, only a few games on them too, stuff people would love and remember.

I dont do this to make money, I figure with the time I spend on them Im lucky if I break even. I only build them for people I know.

As far as someone else doing it for less, I believe that could be done, if you look at short cutting a few steps and cheapen some of the parts the raw cabinet is less than $100 from any hardware store that sells MDF and that includes all the hinges, latches, and lexan. Most of time is spent on prep before the vinyl is install so that it is perfect. there is a lot of this  :banghead: during the process

this is an old pic, we aren't doing coin doors anymore.

I've been making piles of these cocktails too (about 20 in the last 3 months at ~1500 each)...people been buying them as fast as we can make them. Had a guy sit out in our parking lot for an hour and a half while we finished one. it's crazy.

I have a plan that gets 8 cocktail cabinets out of 7 sheets of melamine. I'm not sure of our cost on all the parts but i'm sure we are making quite a bit on our end.

I like the bold artwork, but I'm not a fan of the way the controls are on the top like that. But since they are your own scratch builds, have at it!

For those in this thread that sell these, where do you print the artwork/what kind of material?

I just have the overlay printed at the printer/copy place on the other side of the industrial complex our shop is in. I don't know for sure, but it's probably a 57lb bristol type paper stock with a glossy coating. printed on a large format printer, Probably inkjet. it's goes under glass so it doesn't need to be super tough.

Lucian045 is the guy that does the printing for me, awesome guy, highly recommend him and his product for whatever your needs might be.

He sets me up with a laminated vinyl so its VERY durable and it is very easy to install once you get the hang of going around complex corners like the control panel boxes on the ends.

if you don't mind me asking, what's the cost of the cabinet vinyl?

You will have to connect with him for pricing. To help you better understand I will say this:

I have a guy here locally that was giving me a "good deal" and it was when compared to other local companies pricing. When I had an issue during the installation and could not get a resolution I turned to him and he more than took care of the problem, taught me a tremendous amount about vinyl, printing, and materials and then to take the cake away from everyone else who does these kind of things, gave me a super competitive price on the best material around, not the lowest grade.

No one else, in my opinion can top this guy and if he can do the work for you, its in your best interest to use him.
