I always wondered if I should go with the raspberry pi or a regular mobo. Is there a list of ROMS supported/not supported by the latest Pi?
-
Has nothing to do with the version of Pi, it's to do with the version of MAME you are using. Figure out the MAME version and then just Google up the DAT file for that version and run it through ClrMAMEPro to fix your ROM set to the correct version.

so raspberry pi can run street fighter alpha, etc?

Keep in mind that "can run" and "runs well" are different things. The most common version of MAME on the Pi2, I believe, was .037... The Pi3 is way more powerful, but I'm not sure if there is a binary available for a more advanced version of MAME yet. Probably, but I've not looked.

Here's a list of arcade emulators in RetroPie and associated ROMset versions.

Check out the "Compatibility List" links in the right column.

Raspberry Pi 2 and three both run street fighter 3, all versions, at full speed.
