Surprised this one hasn't been done! I remember being so bothered as a kid that I couldn't buy this game, even though I had the damned sequel! It's got shades of Mappy, and is a fairly standard platformer but always held a place in my heart, probably because only one place around here had it, it was one of my favorite places to eat, and it closed when I was a kid so I WAS DEPRIVED OF GOONIES.

The Goonies is a 1986 platform game based on the film of the same name produced by Konami for the Family Computer in Japan. First released on cartridge, it was later re-released in Disk System format in 1988. Though the game was never officially sold in North America, an arcade port was released for the Vs. System (a coin-operated platform which runs on the same hardware as the NES) under the title Vs. The Goonies. A sequel was released titled The Goonies II, which saw a worldwide retail release.
The main theme song for most of the game is a chiptune rendition of Cyndi Lauper's "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough".
The player controls Mikey. Mikey defends himself with a kick, bombs (whose explosions are instantly fatal to Mikey if he's hit), and a slingshot (found randomly behind doors). Mikey can find diamonds, restoring his life meter to full if he collects eight. He can also find upgrades that protect him against various hazards such as a firesuit that protects against flames and a set of earmuffs that protect against the music notes cast out by one of the Fratelli brothers.

I remember hearing 20+ years ago that Goonies II was released with the plot of the planned sequel. Funny that wiki backs that urban legend up, probably from an April issue of EGM.

Wow. How far are you getting, yam?
I did make it to level 4 once, I still don't know the layout of level 3 very well, so on this one I died having found all secrets and 3 keys trying to find the exit.

Really? Then I'm leaving a lot of points on the table. Is there a 5k bonus in stage 1? I've found the ones in 2 and 3...

You can look the secrets up in the strategywiki. I also made some extra points by making sure to have the slingshot when entering the passage between level 2 and level 3 and farming some of the 200-points enemies. That's a bit dangerous, though.
Finding all the diamonds in the levels gives you a lot of points, too, plus the lifebar gets replenished. I restart the game if I don't reach the passage on one life.
Oh, and collecting the flamesuit, the raincoat and the helmet helps tremendously in level 3.

Why did I pick a game I'm not good at?? I'll get up from here but blerg.
EDIT: 30410. Ehh that's more respectable.

Don't believe there is a 5k on level one.

The best score I got was when I got through the passage pretty easily and was able to get maybe 2 keys on level three. The passage is the part that decides how good of score I ending up getting. Hopefully I'll be able to get past level three at some point this week but we will see.

Got all 3 keys and the helmet in level 3, but didn't make it to the exit. (Not that I even know where it is, haha)

I WILL get past this hump! Ugh.
I'll get an updated top list up tonight btw. This game is as fun as I thought but I didn't think it'd be a weird secret-hunt fest!

I wasn't intentionally pulling a Billy Mitchell, Sunday night was simply the last chance i had to play.

Not your fault - you beat me fair and square. I need to hurry up and get my cabinet setup at home so I can put some more time in on these high score comps.
