Title: Retro themed bartop project (Suggestions, advice, criticism please)
Post by: gomeq on November 20, 2016, 02:32:47 pm
Hey guys, I'm currently working on a arcade bartop with the working title 'Retrocade'. I want to have a 70's styled theme with minimal artwork.

I already ordered some orange (primary) and black (secondary) buttons to go with the theme.

Also did some artwork drafts but for now I'm kinda stuck and out of inspiration. Hoping you guys will have some feedback. Don't be shy, all your feedback is welcome as long as it helps me to get this going again.

The dark wood grained background is something that must stay in place.

For the name things in the direction of this list is what I'm looking for.

Retrocade
Coin Up
Arcade heroes
Masters of arcade
1978 (my year of birth)

Test fitted some artwork. What do you guys think?

Looks AMAZING! I love woodgrain.   Looks odd with the black bezel, though.  Is there something going in there?

I'd have the wood grain on the sides go vertical instead.

I like it a lot!  :applaud: Only thing I would suggest you consider changing is the marquee. I'd get rid of the wood grain and swap it out for one of your lighter colored ones, like the 4th one from the top. Just make sure the stripes are the same as the sides.

This is one of the sleekest bartops I've seen. Would you release the artwork files/build plans you used? My next project will be a bartop and if it's okay with you I definitely want to use this design

Agreed. I love the look of this, but the grain should be vertical to match the longer side of the cab.  I do love the color scheme.  Great job!

Love the wood grain nice to see another fan (I've saved some actual veneer wood from our kitchen for building something down the track).

One design suggestion would be to take the line you are establishing in your marquee and continue that across top then you could bring down the back as a spine that the curves and wraps around the side. Would be a bit Atari in terms of effect. Love the palette you've established nice one.

I will be releasing the files when I'm finished. Please follow my thread in the projects folder. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,151614.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,151614.0.html)

Thnx for all your feedback guys. I will make a version with the woodgrain going vertical. Don't know if the light version of the marquee will look OK but will test that as well.

What do you guys think about tmolding. I have my doubts about the color. Orange, dark brown or maybe even black.

Have you thought about chrome t-molding? My TNQ cab was going to have those.

I think that won't match the theme

Changed the direction of the wood grain and this better. Thnx for the tip guys. Don't like this marquee so I'm going to stick with the other one.

I want to order my t-molding this week but still not sure what color i want to use. Can you give me some feedback on this. On the picture below you'll see some small pieces of example t-molding.
Two next to the marque and two next to the monitor bevel.
