Title: Super Pacman Cocktail Restoration
Post by: Gamble92 on November 01, 2016, 08:13:21 pm
Working on replacing the power supply in my Super Pacman cocktail I'm restoring and bought this http://www.arcadeshop.com/pdf/mappy_super_pac_burgertime_gorf_Bumpinjump_wizofwor_jrpac_power_supply_kit.pdf (http://www.arcadeshop.com/pdf/mappy_super_pac_burgertime_gorf_Bumpinjump_wizofwor_jrpac_power_supply_kit.pdf)
From Arcade Shop after exchanging a few emails with Steven Gregory he said that I would hookup the monitor directly to the Power supply and would not need an isolation transformer.
However this sounded very dangerous to me as from what I know doing so can cause you to get electrocuted just from touching the control pannel.

So my question is should i follow his advice and hookup without and isolation transformer or follow this diagram when wiring up the monitor.

Thanks in advance

He's very knowledgeable, I'd trust his recommendation, but the original used an isolation transformer so I'm surprised he'd say it's ok to bypass. Usually that's a big no no. Did he give you a specific reason why it wasn't necessary?

The instructions specifically talk about the monitor hookup and using A.C. directly. There must be some protection built into these, they don't appear to be like a typical generic switching power supply.

Quote
Locate the two A.C. power wires leading to the monitor. Find a convenient spot and tap the two wires from the new power supply to each of the monitor power wires.
