Like the title states I am looking for a solid into song from the 80's to play when my arcade machine starts. I was thinking I love rock and roll by Joan Jet, but it has a weak start. Maybe hot for teacher by Van Halen. Yet I still think I could do better.
What do you guys have out there?

"Surrender" Cheap Trick

Startup videos/songs get old after the first few times.
I have an awesome Neo Geo bootup remake and have it disabled. :-\
There's an "Arcade '84" video out there that uses Stone in Love by Journey.
I think it works.

Theres only ever one track that springs to mind for me when I think Arcades and thats Oxygene!

Just to add I think the Tron sound track deserves a honourable mention lol

Agreed. Intro songs/clips for an arcade machine is like having YouTube video intros...."just get to what I came here for already!"

C'mon, you want 80s melodrama for an intro to anything, you go with Final Countdown. Let's make that intro last forever!

EDIT: For noobs, that ain't just the music video.
My favorite part is when he hits the joystick left and right at the nag screen.

I agree about the intro being too long. I created this one years ago and I NEVER use it anymore. It's just too long.

I used "War" by Vince DiCola from the Rocky Soundtrack. Edited down (and it's still too long):

A probably better choice
Journey - Separate Ways
-
I always thought 'Jump' by Van Halen would be a nice choice. It has a nice whirring synthesizer intro.

I was there in the early 80s in the arcades and all I remember is the damn drone from the black knight pinball machine (still hate that thing). But it doesn't get any more 80s then ...

I like to play Arcade Ambience since music can get old. Hearing background sounds of an arcade room after booting up sets me in the mood. The only issue is that the audio has no depth to it, rather almost like a mash of all the arcade demo sounds at the same volume level. I'd love to find more of a 3D binaural ambient.
-
I was only thinking of using the first 30 seconds of a song. Maybe I should just skip the 80's and go for some weird techno :dunno
-
Just do a search for touhou rock or touhou metal on YouTube and use one. I have a ton of kick ass jams for my mala BG music from doing that.
-
"Who Made Who" by AC/DC. I've been considering using it as background music. Not in a loop, but to play whenever my front-end wakes up from a period of inactivity. I'm also thinking about getting a custom marquee and CP art, and I might go with "Shoot To Thrill" as a theme, in which case I would definitely have to add some AC/DC music to the front-end. Maybe expand the playlist with "Big Gun" and "Fire Your Guns".
My cab currently plays the Pac-Man start jingle when it powers on, and the Pac-Man death sound when it powers off.

Here's what I used for my brother's machine. I can't think of anything more suitable than this when it comes to growing up in the 80's.

Duh
TOM SAWYER BY RUSH!!
If you want it to be authentic just combine a bunch of beeplys with white noise and some random BLATs from pinball knockers and the occasional "RUN RUN" from Sinistar that is oddly way louder than anything else and you're golden
-
Heat of the Moment by Asia was the only choice for mine. I disabled it eventually.
-
You know, whenever I have the misfortune of tuning into one of those IHeartRadio/ClearChannel classic rock stations, I always wonder,"who still wants to hear this for the 15,000th time?" Apparently it's y'all.

Out of interest did you guys always have Oxygene playing from the penny slots and crane grabs in your arcades?
Its like a staple tune in British arcades, even the few that are still around you can guarantee you will hear it within seconds of walking in lol
-
This is the other one you will always hear:

I switch up from time to time, but one I really like is to go right into the fe and have the stacade theme playing in the background.

I don't have any startup music on my FE. I turn on my games before guests arrive, so there's no reason to have any startup music.

What about something subtle. A snippet from something like this?
