I would like to do the whole power up routine using a smart strip which will power on the monitor when the master power is engaged. My searching is failing. I have a cheapo TV with a momentary switch. I've tried just holding the button down as the system boots up, but that doesn't work, so I won't be able to simply force the button in mechanically. What are the basics for getting a TV to come on when power is present in the cord? I haven't taken a crack at opening it up yet so I don't have any pics of the electronic guts.

If you can get to the power button contacts, you can use a pushbutton or a relay.

If you can't access the power button connections, use an IR transmitter like one of these . . .

Thanks Scott. This gives me some options. Maybe the relay could be timed to bypass the TV's splash screen and the POST test text too.
