Title: Game adjusting through sliders menu
Post by: haynor666 on October 07, 2016, 02:58:00 am
For a start a should mention that problem is actually not strictly for groovymame but also for official mame.

Try to recenter and resize some games using sliders menu in mame but moving picture vertically for example 1943 with resolution 256x224 (256x240 set by groovymame) using those sliders instead positioning in free area (we have left 16 lines of black area) mame cuts game screen when I move game area outside default area. I bypass this by shrinking game area using those sliders. That way positioning works but artefacts after shrinking picture are visible too much. Super resolutions does not solve problem as artefacting is still visible.

Any advise to set position and size area besides using custom modelines ?

Recentering by way of MAME's internal options is only advisable for very minor adjustments, only in the case you don't have a quick access to the monitor's controls. I'm of the opinion that most games are conceived for a bit of overscanning in all dimensions, hence you shouldn't mind if you lose a couple of pixels here and there -- the important thing is to get a full-screen picture with no borders. Resizing through MAME's internal menu is of course out of the question.

Actually I don't mind some small black borders but sometimes overscan by just 8 pixels is bit too much - You can't see highscores or how many You have lives or bombs.

It seems that by by changing something using those sliders is done at core rather osd because picture slightly resized has visible artifacts even on super resolution. Also screenshot is resized and has uneven stretching visible. Too bad, It simply won't work :/

Not sure but I thought moving H or V position might work with some specific values, I mean for instance when with *** game moving H or V position by 0.002 doesn't get you aligned scanlines, but -0.004 does.
Etc with higher values like 0.012 or -0.018,.. and all depending on the emulated hardware's resolution.

Stretching with the sliders is out of the question though, it should be done only using your monitor's H & V size commands or potentiometers (assuming we're talking about crt, of course)
