Title: Anyone buy a 27" TV lately for a Mame cabinet?
Post by: Crayola on January 20, 2004, 01:19:12 pm
I looked through the archives a bit to get TV model recommendations
but most models are no longer sold. I guess new TV models came
out recently.

Has anyone bought a 27" tv lately that has at least svideo, retains the
svideo setting when powered off, and powers back on automatically if
it loses power? Thin and black would be helpful as well..

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Crayola

I just purchased a Toshiba 27A33 three weeks ago for my cabinet.

It works flawlessly (memory, power, etc) especially with the sears/craftsman auto switch (Sears item #00924031000).

Svideo works great.

I've not had much luck getting the component inputs to work with a Radeon 8500 + HDTV Adapter.

Are you getting any kind of picture?  On my JVC TV, I had to change a setting in the menu to activate the component input.

I get an unreadable picture - it's the Windows screen but it's completely distorted and all screwed up.  I'm a little tech-savy but I'll be damned if I can get it working.

I've tried the Arcade setting you suggested but I get the same distorted picture which forces me to power down the machine manually.

I'm guessing the Toshiba handles it's component inputs differently than the JVC.

My friend and I purchased that same tv last week for our arcade cabs.  http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=15264

We bought them at Best Buy- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1051806306095&skuId=5340856&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03003

It has the best picture that I've ever seen from a PC and works well with the Act-labs tv lightguns.

You do need to jam the power button though to make it come back on with the power strip.

*EDIT*
You don't need to jam the power button. It works great plugged into a power strip to turn i ton and off.

Has anybody else tried this? I was planning on getting the same Toshiba, but if it doesn't work with the Radeon adapter I may try to find one of the JVCs instead.

Sorry i haven't been around to answer some questions lately.
I use the std arcade settings inpowerstrip settings ( heck the main component post) then manually modify the rez to 640X 432 approx to compensate for the overscan. This should work on any 27 inch jvc or toshiba; both are interlaced accept 640 X 480. At teh very least everyone should be able to get the std 5% overscanned picture in powerstrip custom arcade setting as long as you have component inputs. When i have teh time i will post print screens of my advanced settings for everyone.

I will never go back to s-video! :) Huge difference in sharpness and colour!
