Hello folks
Just a quick post about a Metal Slug -themed cab I finally finished. If you're wondering about the joystick/button colors, the cab was originally going to be a Bubble Bobble cab. Sides are mdf and the horizontal bits are plywood. My first try with a master/slave power cord and it works beautifully. Noise provided by Pioneer car speakers at the top driven by a Lepai 2020-amp.

Side art printed at a local print shop. Some sort of "light blocker" material. Felt like paper but I guess it has some plastic in it. Found out Metal Slug had a p00p sprite in the game so naturally it had to go on the cab.

Should have gotten black player buttons... :-\ The "in" is the coin button and "out" is quit/exit (and Sluggers know what these arrows mean). These buttons (along with the pause button) are hidden under the cp. I also learned an angle grinder works well on polycarbonite.

the cat was really difficult to get to stick with just plain wood glue.

Also features a custom animated Win boot screen and MaLa layout. (which I can add later if someone cares to see them)
I have some wip-pictures too if someone's interested but as this is a quite run-of-the-mill build I thought I'd skip 'em.
Thanks for looking.

I dig it. I think the button colors look fine.
If you want to take it a step further, add a coin door and some artwork under the monitor.
It is a nice cab as is though.

Nice job. It's good to see a nice full-size cab project that follows traditional lines.

Really nice looking cab, and good choices on the artwork. This is probably the best Metal Slug project I've seen on here in a long while.
My only advice is to take a Round-over bit to your CP plexi's front edge. It's a bit of an eye-sore seeing that sharp edge, and I could potentially be uncomfortable on the wrists (if people rest their wrists on the panel like I do) to use.
After rounding over the edge, you could take a torch to it to make the edge clear again: Flame polishing. It would make your CP look much more pro.

Very nice tip. I will keep that in mind... 8)

+1
Just make sure it is acrlyic (PlexiGlas) not polycarbonate (Lexan)
You can also get that polish using fine grit sandpaper and Novus plastic polish - quite a bit more tedious though.

Thanks for all the comments. :)
Tha cab is actually already delivered to the client so the suggestions you gave here won't be used on this one but I'll try these out on my own Phantom-cab. This project dragged on for faaaaaaar too long (far) as it was and I didn't want to experiment on new stuff I haven't tried before as it would have most likely gone wrong. Having said that, bezel art would have been a nice touch.
The front edge of the cp is actually sanded round and the buttons are placed pretty far back so the players have room to rest their palms on the cp. But buffering/torching would have made it look better, it just never occurred to me to do that. Will definitely try it sometime, though. Good tip that, thank you. I actually thought about heating the plexi and bending it around the front edge but I REALLY hate cutting the stuff and I knew it wouldn't go well on the first try (plus the deadline thing).
