I have some speakers i'd like to plug into my Raspberry Pi. I'm using a hdmi to support video to the tv but it also carries the audio too. Can I use a usb soundcard with a audio jack and mic jack on it? Will it work exactly the way it would if there was a 3.5mm headphone jack?

Yeah, no problem. I think you might have to twiddle the config.txt though. It's been a while since I was in the guts, but that's how I did it.

what Pi are you using? I thought most had a jack already.
Here are some instructions for configuring it.

Onboard audio jack tends to be very noisy. Going USB is far better.

Im using the Raspberry Pi 3. It does have a jack but when i plug speakers into it nothing comes out. Only comes out through the HDMI, ig ill have to configurate it! Thank you for the link!!Onboard audio jack tends to be very noisy. Going USB is far better.
The link i sent for the usb soundcard would work though? Would i still have to configure it if i used that?
