Title: Older Happs 3" Trackball, Bad Optic Board
Post by: SteveJ34 on July 10, 2016, 11:57:34 pm
I built my machine many years ago which has a 3" Happs Trackball with Green optic boards.

One has gone bad, I swapped them and confirmed the lack of axis X or Y moves with the board.

What are my options as I did not find the board that appears the same as mine on the Suzohapp site?

I built my machine around the Hagstrom Electronics KE-72 interface board which includes trackball support so the harness plugs directly to this board.

Any pointers for how best to repair the optics on this or if there is a source for a refurb 3" Happs trackball as compared to buying new, please share.

Upgrade both green boards to the improved "Red Board" P/N A052-1011-00 (https://na.suzohapp.com/products/trackballs/A052-1011-00).

IIRC there are several vendors to choose from including Arcadeshop (http://www.arcadeshop.com/parts.htm) that lists it as "Atari/Happ Trackball Optic Board".   ;D

MIght also try PMing rablack97 and see if he has any spares he might sell you ( or if he still has the refurb'd trackballs available @$45 shipped it might be better to just buy one of them from him !! (figure if paying $25 - $30 + shipping for the 2 PCBs might as well pay the $45 and get a complete unit so you have other spare parts if needed ) or he might have an old green board laying around from the ones he couldn't refurb.

Here is his old thread selling the refurb trackballs ( http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,129928.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,129928.0.html) )

Figure in one of the posts asking about which board was in the refurb's he mentioned :

LOL, thats all i have is red....

I have one lowly green one, in timeout all alone...

Oh yeah, also for a few bucks more I can also send out a set of new bearings.....

So basically, your doubling the life of the thing....

SO maybe he still has it in the box sitting there !!
