Title: Possible to hook this up to an encoder?

A local company (friend) is selling it but needs to know what each wire is what.  I want to hook it up to a kade encoder. :cheers:

Not sure about the pinout, but there are 6 wires like you'd expect on any trackball.
- 5v
- Ground
- X1 (data)
- X2 (data)
- Y1 (data)
- Y2 (data)

Red and black are probably 5v and ground.

Once you've confirmed that, the data lines are easy to sort out by moving only one axis at a time and swapping the data lines if the axis is moving the opposite direction expected. (i.e. if you roll the ball to the left and the cursor moves right, swap X1 and X2)

The only potential downside on using it with a KADE is that the lighting LEDs are almost certainly wired in parallel with the optical circuit IR LEDs.

The 4 IR LEDs and the lighting LEDs combined may draw more current than the KADE can supply.   :dunno

EDIT: On second thought, it probably won't be a problem since Jon used an illuminated Sparkfun trackball (2:45) in this video.

Very late reply.  So i purchased one and just wanted to make sure it will hook up to the kade using one of the profiles.  Which one do i need to use?  Thx

There are two Beta KADE firmwares that should work with the quadrature-waveform data lines from this trackball:
- Trackball to USB Gamepad Encoder
- Trackball to USB Mouse/Keyboard

If you don't see them at the bottom of the firmware list in Loader, select the menu item "Advanced -- Beta Version -- Receive Beta Updates".
