Title: Lightweight Windows 10 installation for MAME and front-end?
Post by: spedinfargo on June 03, 2016, 10:19:15 am
I'm making a MAME machine for my rather non-technical friend.  I went back and forth between a Pi-powered machine and a small Intel Atom machine and finally settled on the Kangaroo mini-PC (Atom with 2gig of RAM, Intel integrated graphics).  It comes with Windows 10 Home installed.

I've seen some other guides for making Windows XP and Windows 7 as stripped-down as possible - which services and auto-runs to disable, etc.  Does anyone have a similar guide for Windows 10 yet?

I will probably put TeamViewer on it so I can remote in and help him if he gets in a bind.  Other than that the only thing this thing will be running is MAME and a front-end.

The Kangaroo comes with a pretty light win10 install already on it ( InFocus didn't add any bloatware since they are only shipping it with 2GB. of RAM since MS lets devices with 2GB. or less RAM add the win10 license for almost no cost vs. the $100 license fee for devices with 4GB. ( which is also why the 4GB. Kangaroo model does not include an OS ! ))

I bought one to use in a machine a while back but Haven't gotten around to setting it up yet and have been using it as a spare desktop system ( mostly streaming TV and Internet).
