Anyone remember the Likes of Ultim@te Racer and the Screamer series on the PC back in the 90's. Anyone run these on their driving cabs?
-
Never heard of Ultimate Racer.
Screamer would be awesome on a cab, but I've tried in vain to get a wheel to work properly with it in DosBox.
It's been a long time, but IIRC the steering centering was screwed up no matter what I did.
Although I already had the original disc, I bought it again through gog.com hoping that they'd sorted the controls.
No such luck.
Some of these old games would be right on par with the 90's arcade racers if it weren't for the lousy draw distance.
Most of them require you to have the disc inserted or mount a CD image since the music was played straight off the CD.
EDIT: I've posted it before, but here is Screamer. It would fit right in with the arcade racing games.

looks so very ridge racer-ish.
just bought Screamer 1 and 2 for less than $5 from GOG, thanks!

It's totally a rip-off of ridge racer...done well enough to be alongside the original IMO. (If the controls worked)

Many a fun time playing screamer on my pentium 133, SVGA graphics oooh and a game pad... good times

Is that "if" like it totally will? or won't?

I had to play with keyboard; havent set up a joy2key style program yet. Its still pretty fun , will be much better when I get the controls sorted. I think it'd be a nightmare to get working with a wheel.
Ended up installing Street Racing Syndicate via steam (I got the game in a bundle years ago) other than the low res textures and lame girlfriend gimmick, its actually quite fun!

See my earlier post. The steering is borked when I try to use a wheel.
It's detected and works, but doesn't work right. IIRC the car would turn one direction and not the other, but it's been a long time.
I remember going through all the joystick options in DOSBox and none of them worked properly.
I only know enough to get things running though. I created a thread here hoping someone with DOSBox knowledge would have a fix, but nobody replied.

Not a 90s racer, but full of cars from the 90s ; I started playing Street Racing Syndicate again. I remember getting the game in a bundle for under a buck (I dont think its worth $10, but 5 or less, sure)
Cheesey get girlfriends, win meets with them in the car unlock a softcore gogo dance , but the racing is loose and fun. Scoring style points is hit or mis but its a fun game. Good alternative to the NFS series.

Actually we tried some NFS2 and Destruction Derby lately.
Getting the wheels to work in DOSbox is not that hard if you set the wheel to "2 axis mode" (break and accell on the Y-axis). The buttons however were a pain, as classic GamePorts only featured 2 buttons per player. Also network support is pretty simple.
Only downside - Most of these games required a keyboard to navigate the menus.
We also tried Slipstream 5000 and DescenT on the WingWar Cabinet :D
OutRun fans could try lotus etc.

Here is Ultim@te race, It came bundled with my Power VR card. At the time it felt like arcade quality racing on the PC... Watching it now I can see it wasn't quite as good but it was pretty close. I think this was trying to rip off daytona.

Ever try the solution posted in this thread: https://www.gog.com/forum/screamer_series/screamer_all_three_of_them_set_up_steering_wheel (https://www.gog.com/forum/screamer_series/screamer_all_three_of_them_set_up_steering_wheel)
