I'm chuffed as hell. Started a new job a couple weeks ago. Much better pay and hours. This upgrade in financial status is allowing me to buy my first dedicated cabinet. An Asteroids Deluxe cabaret!
Yup. He's even cutting me a bit of a "buds with Yots" deal on it. My daughter freaked when I told her we were getting it. It's going to live in her room until I get the gameroom organized and stocked. That's awesome. Glad you got the Bro Pricing.
Daughter and I are doing Robots!
I've only a minor bit of chuffiness going on so far. I made a flying spaghetti monster out of balloons for nephews grad party. We released it to hover and deliver its meaty gaze over Tennessee this past weekend. I've not been doing much arcade stuff, but the selection of arduino components i ordered have been trickling in. Daughter and I are doing Robots!Sounds like fun! Remember, the Summer of Chuff thread doesn't always have to be about Arcade stuff! Thanks for sharing.

Help us out, Yot, what the hell are we looking at?
Looks like I spoke a little too soon about finally having an Austin trip where some criminal didn't try to sell me drugs or stolen stereo equipment. Was there less than 24 hours and managed to get my credit card cloned. And they attempted a shopping spree at Big Lots of all places. I'm actually insulted.
I'd make it easier to switch games. Wired remote for the dip switches?
I'd make it easier to switch games. Wired remote for the dip switches?
Well, sounds like you little peckerheads thought of everything. Now off to find 8 decent Vs games.
Incredibly stupid question:
Would it be possible to piggy back pcbs together in order to have more game choices? Eight is great, but 32 or 64 would be better.
Oh so you need to match the PPUs.... that's a different story then. I was thinking more along the lines of running some NES roms on it for a rgb NES.There are some hacked roms that allow you to use different PPUs, so there is some flexibility. There is another project out there called the UniVersus that allows you to use any PPU and can run some NES roms, but no one has seen it or heard any news since the end of last year.
Haruman, I haven't forgotten you sir! I still have that footage to promote your Haruman's Customs store.
I want to hear more about the bucket.
I assumed my crap would be considered a type of biohazard that needed to be buried or otherwise disposed of properly, but it turns out that it's perfectly legal to toss your own ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- in with the regular garbage pickup.
Chuffed that my bathroom renovation is mostly overWell I didn't have to ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- in a bucket, but it did suck not having a main bathroom for several weeks...
Hadn't heard of the Harmony before, just looked it up. Very cool, a bit spendy though.

I am nearly done as well with my bathroom reno and pretty happy about it. Just waiting on the vanity which will be another week. I decided not to build the vanity a few weeks back and contacted a friend who sells cabinets and he got me a nice custom vanity for cost. Even at cost though, the stone top will be the most expensive item in the room, and the top and vanity combined is nearly double the cost of the entire rest of the bathroom figuring in every fixture, screw, nail, and pipe fitting. But I just didn't want to take a chance at doing a super dark stain on hardwood and end up with less than perfect results. Usually you have to dye the wood first to get super dark and not splotchy, and I am just not set up for using dyes in my shop, so rather than use up $250 in cherry wood and then ruin it trying to stain it a dark coffee color, I bit the bullet and ordered it up. Then once I was in for the custom cabinet, I wasn't going to make a laminated countertop, so I opted for stone, which around here starts at $100 per sq foot...
Here is where I started: a 1966 bathroom with a really bad 80's reno. That's an old steamer shower without the steamer part, the original 1966 valves, and to top it all off, commercial white fiberglass waterproofing panels on the walls.

This bathroom was my eyesore for the last 16 years, but with 5 people in the house it was always last on the priority list. The 3 layers of flooring had rotted out around the toilet and after 3 attempts to re-seat the toilet that would eventually unseal and flood in my basement several months later, I finally got pissed enough to gut the bathroom to the studs... With the exception of 10 minutes to move the tub into the bathroom, I did the whole thing solo, which sucked sometimes but hey, it's rewarding, right?
And the nearly finished results:

The last pic was taken about 5 minutes after finishing the grout, so it is a little dirty but the best "after" pic I have right now...
The vanity will be a dark coffee color, not black but a very rich brown. The top is going to be a fairly sanitary white with a white undermount sink.. The contrast pops between the porcelain white fixtures and vanity top and the charcoal tile and light gray walls really came out great. I am excited to get the last few pieces in place and call it done.. after which I will be starting on putting new windows in the upstairs rooms, after I strip the rooms down to bare walls, patch and retexture, prime, paint, new trim, and new carpet.. Aside from the kitchen floor, that will be the last project before the entire house has been renovated (since I bought it in 2000). AND, that will mark the start of re-renovating the basement, lol...
Somewhere in there I need to write another novel and maybe even get around to building a sit down cab for racing sims... I have a busy year planned..
Hadn't heard of the Harmony before, just looked it up. Very cool, a bit spendy though. After using it for 30 minutes, it's worth every cent.
Although I've spent quite a bit of time working on Janky Kong, I also took a little bit of time to do a composite mod on a 2600 that I had. Coupled with a Harmony cart and it's been great.
I will say the mod has made it easy to hook it up to any new TV, but the caveat is that it handles LCDs differently than it does CRTs. If your TV does a lot of built-in processing, you may need a fidget with settings to get it to look better. You're not going to have some magically beautiful picture of the first time you plug it in, especially if your TV does a lot of picture processing and does things like eliminate flicker.
Love that tub enclosure! The glass tiles really look nice.
I like the accent. It reminds me of running water. :)Thanks! It was fun to pick out tile and decide which way to lay it out. Not so fun to actually cut and lay the tile, lol.
Mine isn't a specific mod chip. It's a transistor and two resistors bypassing the RF modulator.I will say the mod has made it easy to hook it up to any new TV, but the caveat is that it handles LCDs differently than it does CRTs. That might be a behaviour of your specific modchip. Other chips might be different. Really, I just want to bypass the RF modulator. I'm not looking for a magical RGB pixel perfect image of a square chasing a rhombus. ;D

I notice most people play on a jr or a 7800.
Hmm... see that's why I asked you, I figured you would have done it enough to know.A lot of guys recommend using an old VCR since they do RF so well.
I wonder if pumping it through a dvd player or something via rf would result in better compatibility with modern tvs. The audio could be split out which, in theory at least, would reduce the interference commonly associated with a rf connection.
Popped the MultiVS board in there in between feedings. Pretty cool. I need to mess with it more. So much fun.Cute baby there.
Was going to post a pic of it and as I am browsing my phone I decide to post this one instead since its Father's Day.

Was on sale for $160 so I couldn't resist. I cleared a lot of tools off my arcade shelf and now I have a pretty great little work space. Also got all the exterior door knobs changed along with all the deadbolts. This is the year of fixing up the house so maybe I can sell it (and move to AZ?)

Yesterday, a plane flying to Phoenix from Houston turned around and relanded in Houston because the Phoenix runway was so hot they thought the tires would explode.
When your city is so hot it's scaring Houstonians, it may be time to reconsider your city.
One of them was a 28 year old personal trainer. Madness.
Holy ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. We have the opposite problem here. The cold kills people. Same thought process behind hiking, though. Why would people do that to themselves?

It would seem that way until you consider that three well trained medical professionals, including two doctors, decided to go hiking on a 118 degree day.

I've got 6, but the link to the available event list just goes to LiveNation's lawsuit settlement page.
Any luck on finding events these are good for?
the events have not been finalized as of yet, as there is no list.
Wife and I went out to StarFighter's Arcade the other day. Place was PACKED. We played through CarnEvil - first time ever playing that one. I have to say, Evil Marie was the hardest of the three bosses, maybe as hard as the TokenTaker... The baby was easy-mode though.I'm always impressed how busy it is there.

Some random person at work who knows I like retro stuff dropped off three pages from a game catalog from 1988. I still don't know who it was, but I will thank them once I find out.
In the meantime. I found nice $5 frames and put them in them. What's cool is when I show people I can take them off the wall and look at the back of them which also has cool stuff on both sides of the page.
If you look closely you will see a mail in rebate needs to be postmarked by a certain date in 1988. Cool!

Yes, though the compiler he's using does bring it one level up from that. It remains to be seen how well that compiler optimizes and that's a major concern on the 2600.

Yeah, honestly, I'm writing a gag gift for my best friend's birthday, which is in September. A little more than a graphical hack, but nothing too fancy. True. I've seen quite a few people saying things like "oh, now I can write that 2600 game I have always dreamed about!" Then you look at their design description and it's obviously not going to happen they way they think it will. As you say a compiler isn't going to help them make better games than David Crane. :D

I got half my department into it. Not much in my area, but my wife walked around her campus for a couple of hours and got up to level 9.Thanks for the metrosexual compliments, James.
Thankfully, the closest thing in my neighborhood is two blocks over - the zombie hoards of Pokemon Go players are skipping my cul de sac. I've got three churches within a mile that are getting a ton of activity at night - one of them barricaded their parking lot.
Anyway, there's not much "game" there at the moment, but it has been fun. I've been surprised at how little actual interaction there is between players at the various Pokestops and gyms.
Nice taste in flip flops, Yot, and good job on the toe nails.

I'm not sure if that should be chuff or naff. I'm still on the fence in regards to LCDing classic cabs.
Oh, it's definitely naff. Those suckers are running 60 -1's as well.
So my chuff for the month. Just picked up my first dedicated cab. Asteroids Deluxe Cabaret! My daughter fell in love with this at Zapcon, so I bought it.Try the brightness.
Vector monitor seems to need some adjustment after being moved to my house. All the asteroids have a pinpoint in their centers and there are faint lines connecting everything on the screen. I'm hoping it's just an adjustment...

You seriously lock up game systems in display cases and tell children they're not allowed to touch your precious collectibles? We break them out and play them every Friday. The Atari is the only thing that belongs to me. The kids brought in the other things. And I locked them up because about four years ago we had an Xbox 360 stolen from the club. We're putting them out on display and they have little Museum type cards with specs on each machine rather than keeping them locked up in a cabinet, hidden from View.

What have I done....
So what I did I do that was so awesome? I ended our two month drought. Hasn't rained in weeks. Rained last night, of course.
Oh no! How much was destroyed?
Mostly just wanted to emulate more modern versions of Megatouch......
Did the annual "I'm considering cancelling my service" dance with AT&T. 10 minutes of hold, 20 minutes of moaning, $700 saved.
Got an e-mail from my usenet provider that I needed to update my credit card. It's been expired for 5 years. Account still works. Heh.

I've got to think that all the gear at a show, some of which is wireless these days, combined with being in the pit of a concrete structure with a metal roof is nerfing the cell signals more than service coverage, but that's just a guess.
People walking around with cell phones in their pockets constitute 'idiots'?
Really?
Interesting...... I've got to admit, I haven't been to a stadium event in years..... I think the last might have been WCW/nWo Souled Out and that was 99 or 2000 . I noticed that when the undertaker comes out, people light up their phones instead of using their lighter like a proper fan. I'm a dinosaur. :(
The DolphinBar has the bluetooth built into it. It's about as idiot proof as you can get. It speaks WiiMote directly. I plugged it into my computer, hit the synch button on the bar, then the wiimote, and it just worked. Took a bit figuring out how to get MAME to acknowledge it. Had to set mouse to lightgun, then lightgun to lightgun. Weird, but it worked.
Amazon Prime FTW!
You guys are nuts. Between my wife and I, our Amazon Prime free shipping usually pays for itself in 3 months.
Customer service experience is a little bit better for Prime customers.
Well pbj, the pre-order trick doesn't work anymore. I tried it and when I selected free shipping, the option to ship items separately went away. The estimated ship date on the dolphin bar was November, when the game would go on sale.
Nice! I keep hoping that eventually all vector games will be put on a single board.Clay Cowgill is supposedly working on one that plugs into an Asteroids cabinet, but who knows when that will show its face. In the mean time, this is a kit I've always wanted. Thanks to the awesome Arcadenut for the hookup.
Shaweet!Personally, I would reverse that order, but it's cool having them all on one cab! You can check them out next time you come to Casa de Yot.

Actually, they are all great classics.

What's there to see? Push thrust to thrust, hold it down to increase thrust. Let go to reduce it. Left/right to rotate ship. Easy.
The LL thruster is an analog controller. There must be some changes in software to make that work.
Ah, so there is no 'off'. There is only 'increase' and 'decrease'. That is a bit more complicated but better than a static value.
I agree with this, LL aint LL without that analog control. BUT we're talking about an Asteroids multi-kit here, some compromises have to be taken. Having LL on it is only a bonus. Gravitar would have made more sense for that kit.
Heh, that's still a change to software. The original thruster is a potentiometer. So they'd have to hard code the 'on' to some specific value. That would make the game really hard to play given how the thrust value is the most important control you have. It might be the only way to do it with one button but it is a substantial change.
