Title: STUN Runner (Star Wars) Yoke
Post by: Karman on January 16, 2004, 05:05:43 pm
I came across a STUN Runner cab with a yoke the other night.  (The yoke is the same as Star Wars but with different handles)  I was suprised to see that it didn't have full range of movement on the vertical axis.  You could move side to side, and up (by pulling back on the yoke), but not down.  I've never played Stun Runner, so I can only assume that the yoke's movement is related to game play.  My question is - can you modify the yoke somehow to enable a full X and Y axis?

If you open it up you can probably tear out whatever is mechanically limiting the full degrees of freedom.  However, whether or not you can change the optical sensor to accept it will be the trick.  If all else fails you can probably hack it.

That's assuming it's optical. The SW yoke uses pots, and there's a good chance the stun runner yoke does as well. As far as freeing up the up/down axis, doing so should be quite easy.

I have a STUN runner yoke that I converted to Star Wars.  It uses pots.  Also there is a small plate that you can unscrew to correct the vertical axis.  I also had to make another spring for my vertical axel because it only had one.  I guess 2 were not necessary because of the blocked range.  I have a parts diagram for the yoke if anyone is interested.
