ok, i got a mars coin mech, and when i put a coin in it spits it back out (the front)
i have had 3 coin mech's and they have all done the same?
what is the problem, is there a button or jumper to 'activate it' or something?
-
I might be wrong here but some coin mech needs VOLTAGE applied to them, so when the machine is off and somone puts coin in, it spits it out until the machine is on. This is a safety feature so the customer don't get rip off putting coin in a turned off machine.

I'm assuming it's a quarter mech, and not a token mech. Assuming you're using the correct currency (or token) it should work. I'm also assuming this is in a door?

Ah, of course, I didn't even think of one of these. It's a coil. Luckily it's easily removable.

where do i apply the voltage, where is the coil, it is a uk coin mech.

Next question: do you mean 'mech,' the little 3"x5" mechanical coin sorter, or 'door,' which is attached to the front of the cabinet?
If 'door' then look for the 'mech' where the coin gets passed thru. There should be a coil bolted to the inner bracket, likely held in place by a couple screws.
If you don't know what a coil looks like, it's...well...a coil of wire wrapped around a core.
It would be easy to guess if you had a picture to show us.

its not attatched to a door. its a plastic mech, says 'coin validator'
the mech is a "MARS Ms 111 B1"
i cant get a picture

ahh the pinouts, printing them out now!
now where is this coil i need to reemove?
-
You may not need to; I was basing my assumptions on the hardware that I've dealt with. Clearly I need to deal with some of these Mars mechs as well.

Maybe you don't have one, I dunno. Maybe your problem is that you have ap[plied the voltage to make the thing work. According to that page, on number 2
2. The Mars MS111/B1 group is a 5-Coin acceptor with both Positive Common or Negative Common Interface (self configuring). Needs a 12 volt supply, but will work with a voltage of between 10 and 15 volts.
Maybe your missing the voltage.

ok, can i run this off a battery(s)
or do i have to connect it to the psu (arrgh!)
as i am no good with wires.. :(

Take the 12V of you PC Power supply. Its the yellow wire. The red wire is 5volts, the yellow is 12volts.

:( im running it on a jamma psu.. is it an idea to jump it from the loom? ( i know, i suck ) and where would the -12v go to? ???
i really am rubbish at this ...
