Title: Congrats Racing and Driving Board
Post by: Vigo on May 06, 2016, 10:55:04 pm
It feels like yesterday when we were discussing having a driving thread. I was on the skeptical side, but clearly I was wrong.

I just saw this just now. 10,000 posts.  :applaud:

Thanks.  For the most part, it's worked out about the way I thought it would.   ;D
I thought the leaderboard would have caught on better.
The failure of that has been more than made up for by the projects and innovations that might not have come about if not for people coming together on this subforum.

I still think a gun sub-forum would get pretty good traffic.
Hell, it might even surpass the driving cab subforum since guns are much easier to add to an already existing cab.
.....definitely need to get past the server issues first though.   :'(

I'm up for another best time/high score competition,  now that my rig is no longer in pieces.

Well now that mame has multiplayer support for certain lan games it might be possible to get us all racing each other one weekend.

In regards to the forum, it's successful because it's specialized enough to where you can find what you want, even if it's an old topic.  I generally avoid the main forum because I don't keep up and there is just too much junk to sift through.  I figure noobs are overwhelmed.

I think a gun forum would do well.  It's one of those deals where adding a gun is simple... on paper.... getting it to play nice with your games, especially if it's a "gun" for a lcd is very time consuming.

Likewise, I tend to avoid the main forum and visit the site mainly for the Racing and Driving sub-forum (in fact it's only recently I've ventured out into the main forum a bit more as I'm currently working on a bartop build). It's always nice to chat about old-skool arcade racers with other enthusiasts and I never fail to be impressed with the work that's gone into all the driving cabs that get displayed here. If I ever move into a bigger place I'd love to have a crack at building one myself...
