Title: Need advice on coin door/credit buttons
Post by: Guywiththegun on May 05, 2016, 12:21:19 pm
Weighing a couple options . .

I'm using an old Kangaroo cab (previously hacked up) as my build. The coin door is there, but literally its just the "doors". No mech, reject buttons, lock, bulbs, etc. My original vision was to strip/repaint it and add some NovaGemCDRs to the coin-reject slots as the credit buttons. I still love the idea of that, but after researching it looks like they don't fit the actual real slots in a coin door. I've read you can modify the coin door to add them, but I haven't seen anyone even attempt it so I'm guessing its not so simple.

I've read a lot of people wire real reject buttons to a switch. I like that idea, but again, no coin mech. Is it possible to use the reject buttons with a switch without any coin mech? I'm worried without the coin mech they are just loose buttons without any support, which would open up a whole new can of worms.

My other idea is to just buy a full new coin door from Twisted Quarter, with token mechs to accept tokens. I do love the idea of being able to use real tokens. From there I could wire the reject buttons or even just use a button combo to also accept credits (so I'm not dependent on tokens 100%). I actually had to replace the entire front of the machine with some new MDF, so a new hole will need to be cut out anyway. This gives me the option of the coin door they sell rather than the original.

I'm 50/50 between restoring the original coin door and adding reject buttons wired as the credit button (if its easy enough without a coin mech), and going the full coin door route.

Could really use some advice.

You can get a coin insert with mech for about 18 bucks from TQ.  Then maybe you can use the same door if it measures out.

If I go the original door route, I'll probably not deal with coin mechs at all. I'm not even sure which to get to fit a Kangaroo/Dig Dug coin door or what would go into installing it. Does anyone know the dimensions of a Coin Reject button?

I see these on TQ which look like they'd fit a little better than the NovaGems:

2x2 overall

Don't want to dedicate a button?  http://www.easycoinup.com/ (http://www.easycoinup.com/)

As mentioned it's easy enough to wire up the reject buttons to a switch. If you waned to also do tokens (which is what I do) one option is to use the Any Coin mechs:

Another solid solution. Brien is a cool cat who makes solid product.

I've never tried it, but with most, there is plenty of room to mount and rig up a microswitch to the moving parts of the reject button.
