I've missed this forum so much. I probably have some diagnosis, but I'll leave that to future doctors to elaborate. So if you guys want me back, I'll be here. It's ok to say no, I'll understand that too.
Humble regards
John

Welcome back. We all have our bumps in the road.

Not that my opinion matters much since I'm not exactly a heavy contributor, but the more the merrier!

I am eager to see the finish of your DK scratch & Sega Outrun resto.
If pbj can come back, I don't know how we can stop you.
Just take it easy, you are a great builder, no need to squabble with those of us who might see issues differently.
-
John-
Just don't drink and post. You'll be fine.
Welcome back, brother!
-
The forum hasn't been the same since you left. Seriously. Slow and offline in the early morning. :)
-
let the party begin now that John is back. ;D
-
I've really missed seeing your DK updates. Welcome back.

Thanks guys! There's so much going on right now. My DK has been on hold due to new projects! So I'm super happy to see Zinger's thread! :applaud:

Six week absence? I guess that's the new "I quit" around here.
::)
We're old dudes playing old games. We need every warm body we can get.

Your thread provided a lot of inspiration for me to start the build! Thanks for that and the valuable information you passed along. :applaud: Looking forward to seeing your other projects!

John, after the stunt you pulled with that llama and those underage bedouin girls...well I suppose they were prostitutes but I sure don't remember paying...how could we not welcome you back you rascal. I've never seen so much cocaine!!! I just hope that black death dick slime you caught off that Sherpa hasn't driven you mad yet.

My phone should be programmed that after 11pm the send button is disabled for everything (whatsapp, facebook, email, forums, text etc etc)

You can stay, but in exchange, you have to make X2 leave >:D
-
I think you're the first person to ask permission to come back. :lol
They usually just start posting again, but only sporadically.
Then they slowly build back up to the old volume.
I dream of quitting the habit sometimes.
More for the time it will free up than differences of opinion though.
....all the things I've sunk an absurd amount of time and money into that I wouldn't have ever started if not for this forum. ;D
-
To be fair, no one asked you to leave. You threatened to do so, and Lew called you on it. :)
All water under the bridge. We're all brothers here, and brothers fight from time to time, but you just hug it out and you move on. No worries.

Welcome back.
In all honesty, letting all these internet tough guys get under your skin is a bit silly. Hell, Yots, Harvey and I will probably never ever agree on Bling and button counts, but I value their opinions (although they are wrong >:D) and wont let that drive me away. Just flip the occasional bird at your monitor and move on.
Looking forward to seeing you finish your Outrun restore (I just got the same restore myself) so I can see how you resolve some of the challenges with the plastics.

Not you you big old softie.... BTW..lighted buttons on MAME ftw.

I have no problem with LED buttons. The problem comes in the implementation of said buttons. If you use them to indicate which buttons are needed for a particular game via LED Blinky, that's both sensible and logical. If you just want them because OMG!LIGHTEDBUTTONZ!!!!1!!, then GTFO.
-
Meh, light them all or GTFO. The mystery of what an arcade button does is solved by pushing that button once, just as intended. Yes, that means you wasted your super attack, yes that means that quarter isn't going to last long, that was the plan.

Just GTFO.

I'm with you on that one.

Unnecessary thread is unnecessary. But sometimes it takes a little break for obtaining some humility and locating one's balls. >:D but seriously you don't need to ask permission/draw attention to come back. This is a public forum, just have fun and accept there are different personalities with different cultural backgrounds. You can't be liked by everyone.

Bloated Egos, sandy vaginas, shriveled balls, and no one ever being wrong...ever.....welcome to the internetz

As one of the guys who openly support the inclusion of everyone, evidenced by my obvious appreciation of the return of PBJ, I welcome you back with open arms!

Mo'light Mo'bettah!
I like them all lit, and lights around speakers, lit underneath - lights everywhere! And chrome. ;D My latest build is definitely more flashy than my previous builds.
So yotsuya, you're saying you don't know if you like a control panel with LED lights, until you know if the led's light the appropriate button per game? So if a control panel has a 2 player street fighter layout and all LED's are lit and it's playing Street Fighter, you like it. But if the game is switched to Galaga and all the buttons stay lit, you don't like it? Weird bro...
-
All buttons lit... Active buttons lit... Who likes what is pretty much equal to the difference between a fit man and an ass man. Personal preference. Either way though, there is such a thing as too much.
-
Remember all those arcade games BITD that had LED buttons???? ::)
But back to the topic at hand, don't tease us with just the tip johnrt... let's see then build pics.

Are you going to start posting your builds again? You have me curious.

Welcome back johnrt.
Now can you call off your DDoS attack? Saint's TOP MEN have not been able to thwart it and the site is a mess.

Uh.... I'm not a fan of LED buttons regardless of how they're used, but using them makes sense to me if you're lighting them to indicate which ones are active in the current game. It has a purpose.
I used LEDs on my first two Mame cabs, but I don't ever see myself using them again. The longer I'm in this hobby, the less I'm impressed by bling, the more I am by utility. Bling doesn't make the games play any better.*
*Note: these are just my opinions - doesn't mean they're right or wrong. LED/bling away, folks!

Hey, it works for pins.

Pins are a different animal. Also, they're supposed to look gaudy.
-
Personally I like a little gaudy with my BYOAC. Plain Jane is great for dedicated cabinets---which I also love.
I have not used lighted buttons on a project yet and don't see myself doing so anytime soon for various reasons. But I love to see the awesome projects this community comes up with using them.
This site is going to get awfully boring if people are not pushing the envelope a little here and there. Just because I wouldn't want something in my basement doesn't mean watching the build can't be a lot of fun.
-
The envelope hasn't been pushed in years...

Of course. I'm not a big fan of LCD marquees either, but Blip! did it sooooooooo well, it's one of my favorite builds. For me, it's all in the execution of how that envelope is pushed.
-
Yeah, adding bling-bling for the sake of it is just tacky as fuuuu... adding the bling that works with the overall design, now that's involves a bit more planning and thought into the aesthetic.
I'm not against adding that stuff, as long as it works with the theme and overall design. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
-
the more led's and other gaudy crap mods i can cram into my pins the better!
I love it , can't get enough of it on pins, but Regualr games I don't like it, I'm to much of a purist I guess

Of course it's opinion - that's what makes the world go 'round. I must have misread where you were coming from with LED's. Some of the guys on the Mamey crew absolutely hated LCD's or slim cabinets. It's all good.
My favorite all time LED button that makes sense is the credit buttons, since they emulate coin doors.

I bet that's NOS cardboard, too.
