Title: Cutting or slimming of arcade.
Post by: odiefish on April 25, 2016, 02:54:22 pm
I am debating on either using an empty Golden Tee/Silver Strike Bowling cabinet or possibly a empty Radikal Bikers/Mortal Kombat 4 or just building a new one from scratch. It will be a 4 player and will have 27-32inch TV depending on the cab and probably have a bezel or dark glass hiding the black bars.

If I use one of these empty cabs I am thinking of of slimming it by cutting off some of the back. Bad idea?

Do the donor cabs have functioning CRT's? I suggest you build a pedestal and leave the cabs intact.

They are all completely gutted except for the coin doors and marquee light. It is a Silver Strike and a Radikal Bikers.

Not sure which version of the Golden Tee you are looking back, but some of them lay back so far, I don't think you could thin it too much.

I'm not suggesting that cabs are sacred and beyond modification, just that the end result might look better if you built from scratch to suit your available screen.  In the case of a widescreen, I think pedestal is the best design for those screens but you could easily make a slim cab for one.  Some of the more tasteful my favorite versions vertically mount the screen and use software to display at 4:3 aspect ratios.
