Title: I have a spare T.V...
Post by: Harakiri on January 15, 2004, 04:55:11 pm
Hi!

In my garage i have a T.V branded 'Sanyo' 21" that's getting dust for almost 2 years! The problem is that the TV has 20 years and sometimes the image that produces becames purple for 3 ou 4 secs. then goes normal again! Can i fix this problem cheap? Can i do something with this TV in my future project?

Later i'll see wich model is and post something about it! ;D

It sounds like you might have an intermittent short inside the picture tube. It might be fixed by connecting the tube to a restorer/analyzer (a.k.a. rejuvenator). Take it to a tv repair shop and they charge around $50 to $75 to 'zap' it.

Do a search for your make and model on the newsgroup sci.electronics.repair to see what other problems/fixes others have experienced. My own opinion of Sanyo products is that they are bottom-of-the-barrel CRAP. Repair parts are overpriced, not usually in stock, and the parts dept won't even talk to you unless you buy a service manual from them first! I have a Sanyo microwave oven and I had to wait six months for parts to arrive from Japan! Sanyo sucks.

Seems to me that TVs are so cheap now days that it might make sense to just go buy a new one and not have to worry about something else going wrong.
