Title: Raspberry Pi3 Retropie not loading Mk games
Post by: ctozzi on April 14, 2016, 11:34:36 am
I have tried for a few days now with the same roms that work in my mame to get mk2 mk3 umk3 to load but they simply will not. Any help is appreciated
Thanks

AdvanceMame uses 0.106 version of those roms and they have different names/checksums I'm guessing.
Mame4All use different ones too.

It is possible to get them to work, look into using ClearMamePro and a .DAT file for the version you are using on the PI to rebuild to a specific version from the ones you already have.  Everything you need might already be there and CMP can then fix the names inside your backup rom files to the version you need if you set it up correctly.

EDIT:  After looking at the number of posts you probably already know the above, so instead, what does a Windows version of the same build do when you run them?

When I go o boot the game in emulation station it opens mk3 and says files missing. All those are within the zip file. Mk2 just opens and goes back to the main game screen

Yeah the files maybe there, but the crc check may be a different size so it won't match.  The rom version of the game has to match the version of mame you are using.  Some roms are packaged together in a package called mame4all roms or similar and they can be used on older versions of mame, such as the one used on playstation psp etc.  These are probably more like the ones you needs as I'm guessing retropie probably uses an older version of mame, due to it needing a little less juice.

I use a program on windows called romcenter, and that checks through all your roms and matches them to your executable.

mame4all is what i use via portablepi. Im not sure what can and cant be discussed, lol, but there are a romsets and emulator images for the pi that should have you up and running. Not sure what has been optimized for the 3 since it was released.. but id most likely say u have a rom set problem.

Does MK run from the command prompt?
do you have the 37b romset?

If you check the working roms page:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gpuoZx78kDDdnf_yADicsSZHMfpOxNySSov7UdCDAik/edit#gid=828747670

you will see only MK1 & 2 are supported which leads me to believe if you have a rom set with mk3 and umk you got the wrong roms.

I know libretro 2003 handles up to mk3 and it plays well on the rpi3 but I don't know about ultimate mk.

as the others have said it sounds like your using the wrong rom set for your PI, specially if your using the newest mame on your pc. highest pi goes least last time i checked about two months ago was mame 163. but that is with an experimental build. I had the same issue as you till i got my roms to match the correct set, but i have a pi2 so no mk for me. if the pi3 can play umk3 then im all set it plays all the others i like.

Did you ever get Mortal Kombat 2 or 3 working on your Raspberry pi3?  I have been having the same issue as you and it's driving me crazy.  I also can't get Metal Slug games to work either.  If you found a solution, I would love to hear it!

metal slug games aren't a problem.  I banged mine in the neogeo folder and zipped them all up with the contents of the neogeo.zip file so that the neogeo.zip file didn't show up in my list of games.  They run perfectly through pifba. Mortal kombat however, i've only tried the first one so far and that run with no issues, i'm using mame2003.  I'll try 2 and 3 later and see how they run.
