Ok,
I'm pretty sure this one will be solved quickly but my head is burning as I had to redo a lot to finally make the switch to 2.0
Booting some of the cave games (320x240 60hz) gives me interlaced modes on my PSTAR 25 (using that preset, too!). Swithres: 2560x800i 60hz/25.350khz
I guess I will simply change one number but don't know which one. Help would be much appreciated. :)

That mode (800i) was my choice for 320p games on my defunct Polostar. You may stretch the 25 kHz range so it does 320p, but it will have huge borders, you won't like it.
-
it just flickers like crazy. pretty sure it wasn't doing that before. :) I mean...having huge boarders on a vertical game is to be expected. But why would you go for an interlaced mode?
edit:
Frogger for example gives me some crazy interlaced mode as well (2560x768i 25.364hz)?

Flicker was hardly noticeable on my Polostar, and definition was great at 800i. By borders I mean up and down, the usable display area will be a little rectangle in the middle of the screen. GroovyMAME goes for an interlaced mode to achieve the greatest definition your monitor can make, only once it's determined integer scaling is not reasonable.
If you think it was doing 320p before it's because you had modified the preset to do so (modify progressive_lines_min in the corresponding crt_range line).
The Frogger case is different. MAME reports it as 768p because the old patch to force it be 256p has been removed from GroovyMAME.

Ok, what would I have to do to get my vertical games into a usable, non-interlaced mode? sorry, it's late, I just want to play...:D
-
Maybe disable the -interlace option in mame.ini? :)

That did the trick and looks MUCH better (to me). Thank you so much!
