Title: Computer Monitor Power Button in Front Behind Glass

This never occurred to me but as I just mounted my lcd computer monitor behind the glass of my system, I realized the power button is facing the glass at the bottom right of the screen. There's a master switch in the back, but that doesn't toggle the screen on/off. There's no way to reach it from under the glass or behind, and I'm pretty sure there's no remote sensor. Any suggestions other than buying a new LCD with a power button on the bottom or side of monitor? Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Sorry. realised you are talking about a computer monitor, not a TV, and you don't have a remote control.


I had a similar problem, although mostly I wanted the TV to turn on automatically when I powered on the PC.

I found a product "USB Infrared Toy v2" at dangerousprototypes.com, and bought it from SeeedStudio for $22 delivered.

It plugs in to the USB port of my PC, and the infrared led on the IRToy needs to point at the front of the TV. Once you've installed the driver and software package, and updated the firmware, you can use the record utility to generate a file of the remote control power button being pressed. You can then use the playback utility to play back this file from a startup script, and it will power on the TV.

Actually, I jumped the gun. I was able to wedge a paperclip under there and turn it on. As long as when I remove the power cord it was turned on at the time, when I plug it back in, it goes back to on. Just lucky I guess!

Most monitors go to sleep after a few minutes without an input signal.  Therefore, you can simply leave it "on" and it will go to sleep once you power down your computer and wake up when the computer is turned back on.  Also, if power is cut off to the monitor, it will revert to sleep mode automatically when power is restored.  So there is no need to access the power button with most monitors.
