Hope you don't mind this post. I just listed several nice arcade parts on Ebay. I've had these in storage a long time, I realize now I'll never get around to using them.

Probably more stuff to come...
I don't know if my prices are way out of line or anything, but I'm guessing you'll inform me if so :). I really just hope this stuff goes to a good home and gets used on working games!!

Woof ... good luck with the Wico's. I think your prices are optimistic, but not insane. They look like they are nice and clean, so I hope you get what you want out of them.
And queue the line of people pointing out the (rather significant) differences between Xeno/DOT sticks, Tron sticks and Satan's Hollow sticks.

The WICOS with the busted joystick prongs, are those an easy fix? I've had a few WICOS do that to me and luckily I've had replacement leafs, but would like to know what the fix would be.

Hope someone can fill me in, I thought they were the same other than handle color and the thumb buttons? I'm certainly no authority on them. Will edit my ads as required.

As I said in my ad text, I just soldered wire directly onto the back edge of the broken-off prong for full functionality when installed. I realize that wouldn't be good enough for the perfectionist installer :)

Satan's Hollow is a 2-way stick with springs and a straight shaft. (from memory ... I must have gotten rid of the one in my parts pile)
Tron is a hybrid 4/8-way with special restrictors and a straight shaft.
DOT/Xenophobe is an 8-way with a bent shaft.
Encryptor wrote up a guide on converting DOT/Xeno to Tron some time back:

I think replacement switches are still available (IIRC either Mikes or ArcadeShop ... one stocked grommets, the other stocked switches ... typical), but I just solder wherever is convenient.

Thanks Cheffo! This is great info.
So.. the handles are all the same mold \ same fit? With the straight Tron shaft.. does that just mean the stick stands more upright instead of leaning forward?
-
Gorf does not use leaf switches. Gorf has an optical PCB attached to the bottom. Otherwise I believe it is mechanically the same.

I'm not a perfectionist installer. I was at work when I posted and ebay is blocked so I couldn't see the ad. But now that I can see the ad, I can't believe the prices for these things! Think they will sell for that?

I saw a pair of Wico 8-ways (with 4" handles) go for $150 a while back. I've seen single Wico 4-ways go for $60.
It's not what I would pay -- there are still enough junk cabs out there with Wicos still installed -- my JAMMAtized Robo cab came with 4" Wicos and cost $100. And it's not like I had to go hunting for it.
But there are people who hear that Wicos are what they need to have and don't have ready access because there are people like me who hoard them. :afro:
-
The 4" and the 4-way sticks can bring the big money because specific games need them and there are super rare compared to the common short shaft 8-way.

Wow, greedy duck !!

It's more like patience than greed. I don't know what stuff is worth so why not let the market decide. If no one buys, I'll keep relisting cheaper til it all sells.
BTW, when I started, I did look on ebay and found a listing for ONE grubby-looking wico 8 way at 99 USD! http://www.ebay.ca/itm/wico-arcade-joystick-working-/252317704595?hash=item3abf4ea193:g:ZqoAAOSwh-1W4-ED (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/wico-arcade-joystick-working-/252317704595?hash=item3abf4ea193:g:ZqoAAOSwh-1W4-ED)
So based on that I decided to sell mine for half price :) in pairs with a starting bid of 99 USD per pair. Ebay forces the Buy It Now price to be a min % higher. But no one has to use 'Buy it Now'.. these are auction listings.
As for C $181.44... I don't control the USD/CAD exchange rate. USD "buy it now" price is $139.. yes, that's probably too high. Market will prove that if no one buys.
We'll see if anyone bids and wins at 99 bucks a pair when the auction ends. Maybe that's too high also. No biggie to me, I'll just relist them cheaper until the market decides they're worth buying.

That's one approach. I don't have time for it. It just depends on the item. Some items garner more interest so you can put them out for a bid of .01 and let it go from there. Other items, like these joysticks, have their following but it will probably taketime. At that price, I'd expect many people to shy away. I think at $60 for a pair, you'll get buyers occasionally crop up and pick them up at the buy-it-now price.
When I need to sell an iphone, I list it for .01 with a 5 day window and let it go. I almost always end up near the buy-it-now price others are selling for. Since there are so many buyers. If I'm selling a 1983 star wars wiring harness which goes for $125 or so, I'll put it out there with a starting bid of $100 and let it go for 5 days. Sometimes, you get a few bucks less, sometimes you get a few bucks more, but to me it's just not worth spending all the time trying to squeeze out every ounce of value.
Who knows though. It only takes 1 buyer and if you have time to dedicate to watching the auction - it doesn't hurt.

I agree, except it doesn't really take any time to relist, just a couple of clicks.. or relist automatically.
I know exactly what you mean about 'big market' items like iPhones. But even those Wico sticks, if you auctioned them starting at 0.1 you risk someone winning them for 0.1, or maybe bid only up to a buck or two. Depends how many arcade guys happened to be checking Ebay for Wicos that week. Relatively small crowd.
